I debated whether to call this thread "Eating Well" instead. But I am personally good with Healthy Eating. So there it is.

I have lately been finding it difficult to eat healthy!! I try. But lately, I have not been wanting to cook or prepare meals (veggie pizza, veg. stir fry, salad). I dread it! I think it would be helpful to talk about, and starting this thread feels right.

I once belonged to a wellness group. It was around 8 weeks long, and we met every Monday for an hour. It was so helpful. We exercised, we talked about health and wellness, and we wrote down what we ate in a food journal, which I actually found really helpful! I also do find that what I eat really affects my mood!

I have heard that adding in foods, instead of trying to take away, is helpful. Does anyone know about this?

I used to strive for 5 (strive to have at least 5 servings of fruit / vegetables in your diet each day). I'd really like to get back into this! Hearing about diseases that may be prevented by healthy diet, helps motivate me, too.

I prepared a salad today and ate it! Lol. It was after I made this post. I had to get myself to the grocery store, but I did it. I also had some broccoli cheddar soup. Yum. I bought the ingredients for veggie pizza when I was out, too.

That's great! I've never had veggie pizza before but want to try it sometime.

I had coffee today and just put cream in it with no sugar. Not exactly "healthy", just trying to make some small changes. Also, I made a nice dinner last night and half my plate was vegetables

One thing you also might want to look into in addition to adding more fruits and vegetables is adding more spices and herbs into your meals, they have many health benefits

I really think it's important to not judge ourselves for "not eating healthy." We are all in different places and doing our best, and giving ourselves what our bodies feel they need. I kind of gave myself a hard time for putting that I ate broccoli cheese soup. It is not healthy (though, I mean, there is broccoli ). But I did eat it, and it was good, and my goal is NOT to cut out all the unhealthy stuff. Perhaps become more aware of what I need and want, and cut down, yes. I heard coffee can be healthy. And good for the heart or something?

I am reading a book about intuitive eating called...wait for it...Intuitive Eating. I just started it but its a book I've heard many good things about.

That's really interesting!! Thank you for this link, Blue Bird! I skimmed it and read the list. Really cool. I love peppermint tea. I also love garlic and rosemary.

Today was kind of a weird day in terms of healthy eating. I made a veggie pizza, but it's not very good. It was my first time using pizza dough (I've always used pizza shells / pre-made crusts) and I used too much of it and the crust rose and didn't cook enough either. Lesson learned. I also bought chinese, and think I had a reaction to it. It was kind of scary. I took 2 benedryll and feel better. I don't have much energy to peel carrots right now. I am sort of beating myself up. I truly do not like that I have gained about 20 lbs since last year. Maybe it's not the worst thing. I know its not.

I track everything I eat to record calories and macros. I lost down to a healthy weight/BMI (24.4) and I am scared of gaining it back, I have maintained it almost 7 months after losing over 65 pounds. Healthy is what fits in my daily goal. I do eat a lot of chicken and fish as I gave up eating mammals for moral reasons. I have some snacks that many people don't consider healthy, but the are for me because I don't overdo it.

May I join in?

I actually am typically pretty good about healthy eating, until I get into an episode, and then my MI and ED take over. Which has made it difficult to take all this weight off that I gained in a short period of time because of meds and hospitalizations a couple of years ago.

I have been really good about cooking at home and making whatever I want at home, using herbs and spices, managing portions. I started actually counting the calories again today because I feel like I just need to be intense about this for the next 6-8 weeks and then can be less strict. Sort of like a cleanse but not a cleanse.

Today I had yogurt mixed with applesauce and fresh strawberries for breakfast. I had a granola bar for a mid-morning snack. Then I had a turkey sandwich for lunch, on wheat bread, and I did add bacon but I budgeted the calories. For dinner I'm having brown rice with corn and black beans and carefully measured out shredded cheese. I have some yummy fruit - black seedless grapes for dessert later.

I have also started trying to make my food just a tiny bit spicier, because I've read (don't know if it's really true) that spicier foods make you feel fuller faster. And I have found that I feel fuller if my food is a little spicy. Plus it tastes better, lol.

I have to be careful because when I get triggered, flashback-style, I tend to disregard portion sizing. I'm always afraid someone will steal my food and I will go hungry, so even though I know this won't happen, it causes me to food hoard but not like in a savings kind of way but in a "I have to eat everything" kind of way or I won't ever get anything. One of my Ts said this behavior was similar to kids who grew up in foster homes or bad circumstances where there was never enough food, which, yes, is similar to my circumstances of abuse and neglect.

On the note of veggie pizza, I love making homemade veggie pizza. I tend to overload it with veggies though and the dough just falls apart, lol. I like homemade pizza a million times better than from a pizza place.

I have been eating very seldom lately. Have had a very wonky eating schedule too. I did have pizza for dinner. Cheese. It upset my stomach. A lot has been upsetting my stomach lately. I may have a virus or something going on physically. I'm seeing my general doctor on Friday. It's weird, since I started this thread, I've been having strange reactions to food. I have also been depressed on and off, and I'm wondering if thats biological too. But I noticed it helps to be social.

Seesaw, absolutely. Glad to see you here. You sound like you're doing well and eating very healthy. You sound very motivated too.

I want to remind everyone, including myself, to be compassionate with themselves regarding weight and food. Huge hugs.

Oh, and my stomach issues from before was probably a mild stomach virus. I'd gone to the doctors a while back and am feeling much better.

I haven't been eating healthy, I've been consuming massive amounts of junk food but today I went grocery shopping and got a lot of healthy things. bananas, oranges, yogurt, salad, broccoli, black beans, organic eggs.

I also got 6 lb tote of fresh Macintosh apples from here in NY state. They are the best when they're in season, nothing beats fresh apples in the fall!

I have turkey breakfast sausage in the freezer so that would go well with eggs

In my opinion, quinoa is very good. I love it! It's said to be a grain and marketed as one, but it's actually the seeds of a vegetable. I love quinoa.

I did not eat breakfast this morning, and has a really measly lunch (though healthy) so I ended up going to the grocery store hungry, and buying FOOD. Not all good for me, either. I will try again for tomorrow to eat a good breakfast.
