I gain super easy. I'm exercising eating healthy most times but one slip causes a gain whereas perfect eating means I'm stable. I never lose. I'm frustrated. My family is pressuring me to eat keto my doctor says no very bad but I'm losing hope. I'm constantly dieting and still gaining weight! Any suggestions? Is it meds? Doctor says no but something is wrong.

Why not try Intermittent Fasting? I would also recommend Keto.

I actually found out that keto (or long periods without insulin) increases your metabolic rate. Seriously. It turns out insulin tells your cells to conserve energy but when insulin is taken away, they "waste" energy. In fact I found a blog yesterday that talked about how their used to be a pill that told your cells to do this... this pill worked wonders for weight loss in the 20s, but it ended up harming people.

So if you spend 18 hours a day with insulin flowing in your body, you will have a slower metabolism for those 18 hours. They key to weight loss is turning out not to be "eat less exercise more" but keep your body free of insulin (which is a storage hormone).

Read "the obesity code" by dr. Jason Fung (or look him up on you tube).

Thanks. I'm adding apple cider vinegar to my diet. It's cheap and worth a try. I may try fasting too. Appreciate your information.

Yes and lately I've given up on dieting out of frustration, and weight is piling on. I have latuda, iteineral, roprinole, and a recent addition of iud. I've dieted for 3 years. Only to gain back most of what i lost in 3 weeks.

I am with you. That happens to me as well. Also no one really believes me. I believe I have a slow metabolism and my desire for food is just about 300 calories over what I burn off. Thus if i eat normally (for me) on a daily basis I will gain the weight back. I have tried everything to increase my metabolism and nothing works. I also believe starting with the metabolism my rate of burn with exercise is low. So to get the weight loss most people have with exercise I have to double my exercise time and effort.

My goal at moment is to lose in a way that does not kick my metabolism down. There was a study called the "matador" study that said once your body realizes you are cutting back on food it will start adjusting the downward. In as soon as 3 to 6 weeks. So my goal is to lose weight for about 3 to 6 weeks and then stop and eat normally again so whatever adjustment down is reversed.

I have been doing intermittent fasting and it was the only thing that worked. However, it doesn't seem to be working for me anymore.

To give you an idea... I used to be able to do a 36 hour fast and drop 2 lbs for sure. No longer. Now I do that I see nothing on the scale.

Aviza, it seems as if it would be very difficult to know how all those medications are affecting your metabolism.

Personally I had something very similar happen when I tried going off my 1 med, Prozac, about a year ago. I kept cutting way back on my food, but it didn’t help; every little thing I ate applied itself directly to my hips. Once I started back on the med things returned to normal.

One thing you might try that helped me was to try boosting my metabolism by doing a bit of exercise an hour or 2 before dinner. Walking up and down stairs, lifting weights, that sort of thing.

I don’t know the other meds but latuda is an atypical antipsychotic and it’s known for causing weight gain.

I was thinking metabolism, too. My doc says hot peppers increase metabolism. I don't like them, but maybe you do. My metabolic rate, measured at a wellness center, is abysmal; I can only eat 800 calories a day without gaining. Maybe yours is really low, too.

My doc is also going to put me on metformin, but that might be too extreme for some docs to want to prescribe. I encourage you to Google ways to increase metabolism and try them. As I know, it's a miserable feeling to work your gluts off and and not lose any weight or even gain.

I am a fitness professional. I train clients for strength, overall health and guide them with nutrition. I myself am struggling with losing weight no matter what I do. I hired a sports nutrionist and after 4 months of tweaking carbs, protein, fat, hours of eating I still have not lost weight or gained muscle. He suggested getting blood work to test certain hormones. Guess what? My Leptin levels were 2.8 and for a female it should be at LEAST a level of 4. That explains why I am hungry even after I eat and do not lose weight. Unfortunately there is really nothing out there the raises Leptin levels. We are trying a refeed every Saturday consisting of an extra 50mg of carbs in the day. We switched my workouts from mixed modality to slower longer workouts along with my 4 days a week of strength training.

For some back ground I was bulimic for almost 2 decades and apparently that can cause a disfunction in Leptin production.

Don’t worry so much about losing weight as losing inches and gaining health benefits from regular walking and eating a healthy, balanced diet. Weight can fluctuate a few pounds from early morning to the evening, and it’s not a big deal, unless have kidney or heart disease with increased edema or water weight that is dangerous for these illnesses.

If sweating and exercising a person can lose one or two pounds in fluids, and need to drink 16 oz water for every one pound lost sweating.

Make a goal of 80/20 which means eat healthy 80% of the time and indulge in a few favorite food 20% of the time. Good luck.
