I'm over 100 lbs overweight. Prediabetic, but otherwise healthy, mental health excluded though stable. I'm seriously considering gastric sleeve surgery. Basically to make dieting easier. And to finally get that body I want.
My insurance covers it. My primary doctor isn't for it but I really think it's the best way for me to reach my weight loss goals. I do worry about complications one is the sliding versus sticking that occurs after weight loss surgery. Hair loss is another concern. Already struggle with hair loss and take a vitamin to compensate. Read the bible to see if surgery is allowed it is. I'm really almost off the fence. I've starved myself to be thin and wasn't. I'm thinking this will give me the edge I need. __________________ Son: 14, 12/15/2009 R.I.P. Daughter: 20 Diagnosis: Bipolar with Psychosis. Latuda 100 mgs. |

Hello almost 10 years ago I was in the same position you are in now and I took a leap of faith and had the gastric bypass instead of the sleeve or the band. I felt it was better for myself and my health in the long run and I will let you know something. Even though you do lose the weight it will always be in the back of your mind that at one point in your life you were ( and I even hate to say the word now but) Fat and it’s ok to think that as long as you know that your doing this for yourself and not for anyone else.
Let me know if I can help you. Second photo is before first photo is 8 years later |

I had a gastric bypass to cause they wanted more of a permanent solution. It's important to realize that these surgeries Limit the Quantity of what you can eat but if you eat junk food even small amounts on a regular basis you will gain the weight back. I lost £127 and have maintained it for 13 years through following a strict eating plan. I know 5 women that had gastric procedure and all of them have gained back plus more.
It's important to realize why you want the procedure and what you expect to get from it. It is a tool not a cure. What are your expectations? __________________ "I carried a watermelon?" President of the no F's given society. |

I had to go through "vetting" to see about a Roux-en-Y bypass. I was approved, but ,my insurance won't pay for it because I don't have enough health issues due to being overweight, I think.
I was on the fence about it anyway, because these surgeries are so drastic and I'd have to give up my beloved drinks such as diet Coke and watch what I ate so carefully. Also, I'd have to take vitamins. Otherwise I'd be malnourished. I don't know about the gastric sleeve as far as vitamins are concerned. I'm sure you'd have to get a doctor''s approval. Unless there's a way around it I'm not familar with. If you want to do that, I think you could go to a surgeon specializing in those procedures. Even with that, I had to have psychological testing, attend a number of meetings to learn about the procedures, try out two kinds of vitamins to see which one I wanted, etc. Best wishes, whatever you decide to do. |

Any decent doctor who does this should also have you do a psychological assessment. It won’t hurt for you to see what the operation is about. It also won’t hurt to face the reasons why you eat. For many people this operation has been a lifesaver. If you don’t deal with the underlying issues then you will struggle. For other people it has become a path to torment. Please go into this with your eyes wide open and a suitcase of tools to deal with it.

I have a coworker who did it and she gained it all back but I know people who did great after surgery. I know someone who had a very bad infection and was very ill after it. I’d ask your doctor if she isn’t for it, what do you think you should do to lose weight? There are certainly other ways

I go back and forth myself! I signed up for a zoom intro session at a local hospital, then cancelled when they emailed to verify. I am probably too old to qualify anyway. The weather should be getting cooler in a week or so, i PROMISE i will start a walking routine. We would have to walk anyway, wouldnt we, to get healthy enough to have the surgery? I probably would.

I walk now still fat. I was exercising daily for a month didnt lose a pound. it's about the food i was told. No matter what i do it's never enough. My mom says fast skinny girls don't eat every day. I can't due to meds. But honestly have and was thinner. I just want help but am scared it'll be too severe.

I'm nervous but not scared. Reading peoples afters has helped. I'm starting to make plans and figure out how to follow the eating plan while my stomach heals. I feel good about doing this now.
