So I've noticed a lot of acronyms used in these forums, and while I've discovered the meanings of some, there are others I don't know/couldn't find... and I'd bet that I'm not the only one. A few I've seen:
T = Therapist SI = Suicidal Imagining/Intention(not sure which) SUI = ?? (Was in the same thread as 'SI' so I assume they're related) LCM = ?? (some type of therapist from what I could gather from the context of the post) PDOC = ?? (Primary Doctor?) I've always felt that knowledge is power, and that ignorance is the most damaging and nefarious force in this world. Spreading some knowledge might help everyone get better... Even if I attempt to look them up, most likely I'll get multiple answers. And some acronyms may not even be related to mental illness. Sometimes I don't want to admit I don't know the meaning of something. Also, since my aceess to the Internet is very limited, I don't always have the time to stop and look something up. So, a dictionary would be GREAT. Or, folks can merely spell out the meaning in parentheses. That would help, as then folks wouldn't need to look it up. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Yeah I am not sure. I've just been trying to identify them without asking. SI means self injury I think.
Not sure what SUI or LCM is Not really sure what PDOC is either. i was thinking like psych doc or something. Wish people would just take the extra second to write these out since I find pretty much all of them silly sounding. Especially when shortening therapist to just "T"? I get such an image in my head when people use T to refer to their therapist. |

I only confuse one. I, used to think I in si, was ideation, where there's h in sh for harm.
Otherwise, I feel I've been around the block, a few too many times. Thanks, for the list. |

The list I posted is sort of here and there on the site and I just copy and pasted it all together for you.
Sister Rags, thanks so much for alphabetizing it all! Great additions to add to the list as well. I think, if someone would be so kind as to put them all together in one list, we can make it a sticky in the Community Feedback and Technical Forum for other members to see and use as well. Thanks LostmyWind for starting this thread! |

I agree ---this thread is handy but I forgot I was subscribing to it. By default, once the new posts stop coming, the thread drops further down the page and doesn't stand out anymore. Pretty soon it gets bumped to the next or last page of subscriptions.
You're right---it just takes a few seconds to type it out. Some are pretty well known, like FYI = For Your Information. But I'd never have guessed what CSA meant. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here. "Okay, enough photos.
