Let's say this:
"The secret to happiness is to accept what we don't like and to appreciate what we like"

What do you think?

Is it true?
Is it not?
Is it half-true?

Does accepting something you don't like make you happier?

Does appreciating something you like make you happier?

I think that it is true, but there are other variables

To have few wants . This is the answer .
Dissatisfaction comes from always wanting more ... from comparing yourself to others ... from never counting your blessings .
There is no such thing as happiness . It's an illusion . There is content however .
By endlessly pursuing happiness we produce unhappiness ... which does exist .

This is something good to spend time contemplating.

I think acceptance of certain things would definitely bring me some inner peace, sure. But I must admit, I've been trying and trying to accept something, or see it in more positive light, or to understand it better, for years now, but simply have not been able to shift the way I feel about it, and so it continues to hurt me, depress me, frequently. So, to say 'all you need to do is accept' - is, for me, easier said than done. And I bet that's true for a lot of people. But, hey, I'm happy for all those people who can go around accepting everything at the drop of a hat. Wow. How lucky. But appreciating the things I like, to be grateful for things, has never been an issue.

Sure, sometimes I need to accept that I can't accept. At least that I can't accept right now. I need to accept that I need time to accept.

@ArchieAus
Sure, if happiness means expecting to be jumping up and down all the time, that's not going to happen or at least not all the time, maybe sometimes. To me happiness is a bit more like going to the park and contemplate the green and children playing.

In other words, to me, it's just another one of those airy fairy things people pick up at the therapists office that sound good, that make the therapist sound 'wise' but in practice, everyone's still struggling really. Forget acceptance, it doesn't work. "Oh but it takes time - 20 - 30 years" Lol Ridiculous.
