i am a timid person, i get scared easily. As i get older, it got worse.
When i am home alone, i would turn on all the lights, and i also afraid to go upstairs because i am afraid that there might be someone hiding, and as soon as i go upstairs, he will try to kill me. So, if i really have to go upstairs, my heart race usually goes up cuz i am too scared.
When i walk on the street alone, i am always paranoid. I am scared that there will be some random murder and just stab people on the street and therefore i always carry small knife with me.
When someone walls pass our house, i am so scared that he might have gun with him and just bust into to our house and shoot us dead. So when someone knocks on our door, i never answer.
And if i forgot to check if the door is locked before going to bed, i would not sleep well so i have to go downstairs and check it.
When i walk on a street at night, i am afraid that there might be someone following me home and kill me, so before i arrive our doorstep, i would make sure that no one is tailing me, avoiding the possibility of getting murder.
Sometimes i enter a new place, i would look around and see if there's surveillance. If there is, i would feel safer.

I don't "believe" that someone might want to kill me, i just want to be prepared if one of these really happens. Are those things i mentioned above normal??

Hello Ali: Thank you for bringing your concern here to PC. I see this is your first post. So... welcome to Psych Central. One forum, here on PC, that may be of interest to you would be the anxiety, panic & phobias forum. Here's a link:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/anxi...c-and-phobias/

You wrote you're a timid person, you're easily scared, & as you've gotten older it's gotten worse. I may not be quite as timid as you describe yourself. But I tend to be a pretty cautious person. And as I've aged, it has also gotten worse for me too. (Of course, I don't know how old you are. I'm 70!) I actually do quite a few of the things you do as well. (I don't carry a knife. But I do have a large walking stick that could be used as a weapon should the need arise.)

You asked if the things you described are "normal". I recall, many years ago, a psychology professor I had in college told us that mental illnesses are simply more extreme examples of things everyone does or experiences. And we all have them to one degree or another. He said he was confident he could go around our class & "pull" pathology out of each & every one of us. So I would be inclined to say the behaviors you describe are, perhaps, simply somewhat more extreme examples of things most people do every day. However I would think that, since it sounds like the things you are doing are of concern to you, then perhaps you might want to consider seeing a mental health professional about them... perhaps a mental health therapist... not so much because of the things you are doing themselves but rather because of the fear & stress you are experiencing that is driving you to do the things you do. At least that is my personal, non-professional opinion.

One thing you might consider doing, here on PC, is to take some of the quizzes & tests that are on offer. Here's a link to the listing of quizzes & tests that are available:

Psychological Quizzes and Tests

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
