I have mutiple doctors involved in my care aa it is a bit complex.

The number one thing that helps is the fact that they listen to me. Whenever I go in, they hear my concerns and together we work on solutions. Number one is feeling heard.

Second would be helping me with coping skills. It is not a situation where I get meds and no support. I get books, internet sites, hand out and talk therapy to explore various tools to help with day to day life.

Finally they let me know I am not alone and they will not give up on me.

Those are the most beneficial aspects to myself.

When I was struggling with anorexia & in the medical hospital with it, my MD said that he would ONLY treat the medical aspect of it. It was my pdoc / T's responsibility to deal with the mental aspect. He did call in the on-staff pdoc & psychologist to work with me & this was also the same time my mom died of cancer so there was so much I don't think they even grasped.

Now I really don't see an MD unless I am sick & my PA is my friend & neighbor so I run things past her first. My T is the only one I see on a monthly basis

My medical doctor tells my to talk to my psychiatrist about anything that is not physical. He is very thorough with what he does medically. He will not give me repeat scripts for my psych meds. At least I know where I stand.
