For as long as I can remember, I have had an absolutely crippling fear of rodents/bugs. I don’t even know where the fear came from, but I’m terrified of them contaminating me, my living space, and my family that I live with. It causes me great anxiety and the fear if I don’t deep clean everything I see, we’ll all get contaminated. It’s debilitating and I can’t stop sobbing ir having an anxiety attac if I see a bug or mouse or even think about a rodent near me. The same thing happens at work, which causes issues. My friend said it sounds ocd like but I always just thought it was a little phobia. Everyone’s afraid of something I always thought. What’s the difference between what a phobia looks like and OCD?

I am sorry that you have a fear of bugs. honestly: I don't really like them either (plus I am alergic to bees) and have to try to be extra careful in summertime

let me try to explain the diffrent using a fear of elevators (I'm terrified of elevators, I hate them)

so: a fear of elevators might be that you are afraid to go in one in the first place, because you are scared it is small, you are scared it will break down, you're scared it's going to be dark, you're scared of other people in the elevator... you get the picture

if you have OCD over elevators, you might be concerned about the clenliness of the elevator and people being in it before you, you might be okay to go in them, as long as you get off at an even numbered floor, the elevator doors open a certain way, you can go down in the elevator but can't go up, you'll only go in the elevator at a certain store or place (and won't touch the other elevators, ever.), that kind of thing.

I hope that helps a little

My initial GUESS is that a phobia is an intense fear if something while OCD is more like repetitive behavior or thinking
