After years of being manipulated and taken advantage of , the perfect situation has arisen where I can put my foot down. Im being ignored by management until something is needed. I’m worried i may be let go. But I absolutely needed to get my point across so that this does not continue to happen. Im glad i stood up for myself. Im constantly asked to do additional work even if there is enough staff to share the work. I work 10hr days so that some staff can leave early.. im asked to work my shift PLUS another persons at the same time and get zero compensation. No bonus no anything not even a simple “ thank you” . Im talked down to by customers, im treated like i dont do anything all day and ive been lied on . I have my schedule changed without my knowledge and im expected to work anyway. Im over it. Im one person and a human being. I’m tired of being treated like this... my mental health is deteriorating because of this...

Sometimes you have to put your foot down and take a stand for your mental health, even if it means losing a job. Hopefully if you do lose your job, something better will be waiting for you - and I suspect there is.

I have been interviewing at other places. Im just afraid theyll be as bad or worse as this place and i dont want to wreck my employment history with gaps and swapping jobs like i change my clothes. Mostly because theyre not what i am looking for... so im basically stuck leaving a job i hate to a job i also hate.. but tempted to accept anything to get away ya know?

You should feel proud that you stood up for yourself. I know how hard it is to do that, especially when things have been happening for so long.

If you do leave a job to go to another job that makes you feel this way, which hopefully you won't, then use this experience as a lesson to make sure you stand up for yourself sooner so that you can hate the job less.

I am currently in a similar situation where I am in a job I don't enjoy, and I had only accepted this job because I had lost my previous job at the beginning of this year. I was offered this job in the same line of work which was great but the work place is toxic and I need out of there ASAP. I am torn between leaving without a job in a terrible job market, or sticking it out (and maybe losing my job rather than leaving on my own terms) until something comes along.

I've been thinking about how I would word it if I was asked by a potential employer why I was leaving this job so soon as all my previous jobs were longterm. With the pandemic I would simply say that I have done a lot of thinking and reflection on what I want to do with my career and it is time to make a leap. The pandemic has put my career into perspective for me, and it is time for me to find something that will be more fulfilling. Hopefully this also helps you!
