Hello all,
Lately I have been having all these thoughts about just quitting taking my medication’s... I cant get the Idea out of my head. The Main reason I think it started was because at my last appointment my dr raised meds again and added seroquel and I just cant bring my self to take it or the bump in meds. And now I just want to stop all together. I have skipped out a few night doses but taken am, mainly because I then feel guilty for some reason. I am just wondering If anyone else gets this? I dont know If I should tell dr or not?

Very common. Especially when things are going well. And increase in just one med can suddenly feel like too much. I wanted to quit everything many times but I’m afraid that if I quit and then need them again they won’t work. So I compromised and quit taking the OTC omega pills, they are so big quitting made me feel better but I’m still taking all the essentials. I’m sure my cholesterol is probably back out of wack and my fingernails keep breaking but the thought of those huge pills are just too much. Yes do talk to your doc. He might have. Suggestions and yes he’s heard this before.

Well that is one way to get off some of it. For some reason I am Just obsessing over it, at my last appointment I told my dr I do not know what I want to do if I want to continue, I quit going therapy about 3 months ago. Because I feel like this is all kind of futile. Nothing my life is the same except now I am swallowing a bunch of pills I do not know how to talk about it to my Dr. because he told me I just keep throwing myself further into mania and kind of feel like my personal feelings do not matter.

Yeah liking mania is common, it helps to remember how much of a mess that can be tho. I feel great in mania but I lose a lot of friends cause I step all over people.

Like Nammu posted, wanting to stop our meds is extremely common, especially for those of us with bipolar disorder. And especially when we're feeling stable, or hypomanic.

Have you taken a look at the Bipolar Disorder board here on PC? You might find it helpful for you.

I have gone totally off mine I think 3 times (slow learner). I ended up in the same condition each time. I hit rock bottom. Each time was a different location and circumstances. Definitely no recommended.

You must remember that your treatment is for you by you. You are the driver of your therapy. I know sometimes it feels like you are just following Dr's commands, but you're really not. You are helping yourself by getting treatment and that is your decision!

You have the right to question Dr's suggestions and put in your own.

I’ve actually stopped 2 of mine on my own. I’m not looking forward to my next Pdoc appointment in a couple weeks. I mean, I am doing much better without them. But I do not suggest doing it on your own. I kinda wish I had just lied to my therapist and said I was still taking one of them. But then how would I have explained the sudden drastic change in my moods and anxiety.
