Has anyone ever heard or tried this kind of therapy before? My therapist thinks it might be good for me. I’m on the spectrum and am highly sensitive to sensory issues.

Dear Don,

I've heard of occupational therapy for those with vision problems or those with missing limbs. That is the only kind I have heard of though. Maybe others here are in the know. Hope you get some helpful posts!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Yes from my understanding, OT helps with various things such as helping a stroke patient re- learn and navigate activities of daily living such as cooking, etc. and help patients develop strength in their hands and maybe wrists and arms after surgery or injuries. Also work with development disorders such as autism, etc.

I am an OT. Yes we do work with sensory issues like you describe but I'm not sure you could insurance to cover it for an adult. It's possibe, I've never worked outpatient, but definitely be sure it's covered before signing up.

OTs often work on coping skills and other life skills in psych IP and IOPs.

I am very familiar with OT (professionally), it could help with sensory issues but I would talk to your primary and see if your insurance will cover or if it will deem to be medically necessary
