Had a conversation with an old friend of mine earlier this evening and that took kind of a doomerish tone (in terms of world events) have any of you had any luck avoiding this attitude?

Not really! It bothers me, and I'm trying to get on with life as best as poss. In terms of world events, everyone I speak to seems to think it's all bad, or just don't want to even think about it.
I like listening to The Economist Podcasts, The Intelligence and Babbage, cause they always have a gentle balanced tone
I was saying to some people who are all doom and gloom "there's more to life" but that doesn't seem to go down too well. It is a really hard time, and I think it's important to remember that we are all affected, but we are affected differently, and still have personal issues and difficulties too. We can only do our best by each other, and try our best to keep spirits up

I get it a whole lot. No matter how well things go for me, I keep on getting a nagging feeling that something is wrong. Especially in thinking about my health. If a doctor says to me, "you're all fine" (which has happened even recently) in two weeks or so I'll feel a need to inquire again. Even if I feel great inside and out, it still happens.

So often I would catch myself and feel guilty if I'm feeling too good.

Yeah, I was thinking of world events mostly in terms of the pandemic and politics, also there is a lot of talk about race relations, that often takes a negative tone... it's maybe just the people I am talking to, or just the way it has been recently. I don't know

Luckily I live around & am a person who is positive about most things. I don't have any doom people around me & we all lift up each other in spite of all the crap going on out there. Oh we are well aware of it & have logical (not emotional) discussions about it but in the end we are all positive about our lives. Lol....I unfriended & blocked the one person who irritated me on FB. Amazing how much stress relief that was & good feeling to take control of the situation

You don’t have to absorb others doom. Often the person is looking for understanding and something positive despite their fears about world events.

When I see that a candidate someone wanted to win an election lost I offer comfort and kindness instead of the ongoing divisiveness taking place.

This message of how it’s going to be a dark winter is the last thing people need to hear when it comes to COVID too. It may not actually be bad.

Ugh, yes. My husband. When he starts in with the doom and gloom world view, rather than confronting him (which is tempting, but pointless), I change the subject.
