Hi everyone - I was wondering if anyone else has experienced hearing loss as a symptom of ptsd or related to trauma?
I recently have been recovering from trauma, and have been dealing with this - it definitely seems connected (related to triggers). My trauma is not related to ears at all either - it's emotional/mental/physical, but not like a head injury.

Dear DarkWillow117,

That sounds scary. I have not experienced that symptom myself but maybe others here have. Hope you find the answer!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

I'm so sorry. I don't think I have any hearing loss, but my husband has loss in one ear from the Vietnam War.

Cool username! I have hearing loss but I've had it since birth....not related to trauma. I suppose it could be some sort of conversion disorder but I'm not a doctor so that's just my left field suggestion.

Thanks! It's from Buffy...

And thank you all for the replies - I'll keep noting when it happens. It's definitely freaking me out quite a bit, but I tend to have physical responses to trauma/anxiety, so it's not totally surprising, I guess.

If you don't mind me asking, as part of your recovery, were you prescribed any specific anti-psychotic medications DarkWillow117? Just wondering if your hearing loss symptoms might be to do with medication side effects. I have reason to believe at least one anti-psych med could trigger hearing loss.

@DarkWillow117

Actually there are quite a number of medications listed on the internet linked to hearing loss = 'ototoxic'.

Hello, I hope everything is fine, I can relate to what you're saying.

I believe that exposure to EH was caused some damage to my inner ear canal.

I have momentary Tinnitus, followed by a sharp stabbing pain in my ear canal.

Would this be anything like what you're referring to?

All the best

Shane

Would any of you upon this post have what's best described as momentary Tinnitus at random times, this accompanies a feeling of pressure within the ear canal after heavey periods of hearing voices 24/7 for years at a time.

The tonal sound is a lot like Audiogram have any of you ever noticed at all.

And would you have self-talk or silent speech live streaming, as again this is the best way to describe it.

I have experienced that as well as problems with eyesight. Some days I can barely see anything, sometimes, I can see just fine and on very rare occasions my vision is almost perfect ( colors are bright too ). Same with my hearing. Not sure if it's connected to trauma or my cptsd but I have a feeling it is. HAve you consulted with any specialist about this ?

I get a ringing in my ear sometime. My ENT didn't believe me when I complain.

Thank You, for responding I know these things do occur being outside of the Doctor's remit, and us looking a bit worst off, it's tricky to get the point across in a way that's clear and concise.

I view mine as a result of some kind of frequency involving my experiences of 'voices' and 'Tonal' thing, that it sounds man-made like an audiogram hearing test.

I hope that maybe I will get to the bottom of this and know the how what and why I was subject to these things, I suppose from birth really. as you know the
your life's patterns, as they repeat certain themes, events, feeling, and situations.

I think would be the same for most people, though for some of us it reflects this Stephen King Carrie type story.
