This is more poignant than funny. But, on Monday, I was talking to someone on the phone, and when I hung up, my 5 year old was curious about who I was talking to. When I told him, he asked "is he dead?"

He had a sister that died 14 days after she was born, this was several years before he was even born, but he knows he has a sister who died. I explained that we can't talk to dead people. That we are sad when they are gone, but we can't talk to them anymore.

He talks about his sister sometimes... and tells people he had a sister that died. Tells them that she was just a little baby.

He knows a little about death. We had an elderly cat die, and we all buried her together in the yard... And his grandfather died almost 2 years ago. I think he vaguely remembers seeing him in his casket.

My son works with a speech therapist to work out some minor issues... One of the things she has found that helps him stay focused is to promise to draw something for him when they are done. For some reason, he just loves it when people draw things for him. He watches all the movies that are popular with 5 year old's and she has drawn Power Rangers, and Mutant Ninja Turtles...

The other day, when we arrived, I asked my son to tell the therapist what he wanted her to draw.. His answer? "An invisible dragon". LOL

A friend told about how his young granddaughter calls her genitals her "who-ha". One day she was over at his house looking at a feather, and he told her it was a hawk feather... Well, she must have misunderstood, because when her parents came to pick her up, she told them the feather came from someone's "who-ha".

LOL

When my daughter was about 2 and very proud of her success on the grown up toilet, we had gone to a fast food joint and she informed me she had to go. I took her to the bath room and into the stall....when she'd finished, she turned around and squeeled delightedly. "Mommie! Yellow and blue DO make green!!" she exclaimed. (the toilet water had been treated with bluing)

The bathroom was packed with others and they all erupted in laughter. I was mortified, but had to laugh it off myself. Still makes me smile.

When son was 6 or seven, santa brought him a 'batman' bike for xmas. He loved batman and the front, between the handle bars was a picture of him. So as he's riding down the sidewalk, he's staring at the pic and runs into a street lamp--not hard, as he was going slow and wobbly but he fell off the bike just the same. Standing over the offending pic he kicked it hard and yelled 'Stupid Batman!!!" I burst out laughing. He was not amused.

He's 27 now, and luvvvs when I tell that story lol NOT.

We went to visit some friends with a daughter a few years old than our son (he's 5). He said he remembered her, and that he wanted to stay with her instead of going home with us. LOL.

He then started to describer her. "She's about this tall, is nice, and has big knees." LOL

He has been fascinated with knees lately, for some reason..

When my son was a preschooler...he loved to wear superhero costumes rather than regular clothes. He was playing in the front yard, cape and all, when a car full of teenagers drove by - they yelled out Batman, we need help! - my son went running after the car.

Once my oldest daughter, age 4 at the time asked my mother if she had any kids. lol

A couple years later....she was a kid that would ask a question 100 times a day till she got the answer she wanted. (Like asking for a toy). She kept asking me for something and I told her not to ask me any more, I'd get it when I could. My son, 2 years older, went to her and whispered in her ear: "Ask somebody else then". lol

A little kid at the preschool my mom worked at came up to her and told her she looked like Miss Piggy. This was like 20 something years ago and we still laugh about it.

My son around the age of 8 or 9, came home from school, dropped is pack, and said to me, "YOU LIED!" With a puzzled look on my face, I asked him, "what do you mean, I lied??" He went on to say with such seriousness in his voice, "You and dad told me Santa was real! And the kids at school said he's NOT real! They told me that "PARENTS" play Santa! So YOU lied!!"

...

Yes, this was an awkward position to be in, and having to explain this one to my child. So, I ended up Googling the true story of Santa Claus... Saint Nicholas, to help explain to him. This helped a bit, and he was okay with it, but still was upset with us for pretending to be Santa. He turns 16 next week, and still reminds us about the lie. (Lol)

Ah... the Santa Claus "Lie" Debate. Anywho... I find it a fun tradition, and I love playing Santa. =)

And he did mention, that same day, that it is us also playing the...

Youngest says to middle brother, no, you've gotta talk Spanish to that dog. Because his family speaks Spanish.

My niece when she was really young, had very fine, short, blond hair that she looked almost bald from a distance and in her pictures. When she was 4, my SIL at the time and I were looking at older photos, and my niece was looking at them too. She saw one of her earlier photos that is was really noticeable and turned to us, puts out both her hands out in front of her slightly at her side, with her palms up in exasperation, like she was going to explain something, and in all seriousness she asks: "Mom, what did you do to my hair, what did you do? Did you mow my head?! " If she wasn't so serious, we both tried so hard not to fall out of our chairs, tears of laughter and horror at the thought.

My son is 5 and asked me this morning for the first time "why do we sleep all night?". Try explaining that one, lol. I basically said, "I'm not sure, we just do, it's kinda weird, isn't it?" He said "I don't want to sleep so long, I just want a short nap".

We were out camping and I was sitting in a lawn chair with a low seat and leaning forward a little. My niece came over and said "Why are you outside naked? Everyone else is dressed." I looked down and realized that due to the chair and the way I was sitting that my belly covered my shorts, so I stood up to show her that I did have some clothes on. She watched for second or two while I sat back down. She then looked me in the face and "Well that is just plain weird." and she ran off to tell her mom.

When my older sister and I were about 6 and 8, a stray black cat with a little bell around his neck had found refuge at our house. My sister fell in love with him, saying to my mother in a determined voice "I shall call him Satan...and I WILL be keeping him". My mother looked at her wide eyed in disbelief at what she had said, then promptly took the cat to the animal shelter.

We like McDonald's and Biggby coffee and go to both place often. Somehow, my son has gotten the signs mixed up a few times, and said.... "look, there's McDonald's big BM".

When my oldest brother was little he used to not be able to say Fire Truck, he could say Fire just fine but had a problem with the Truck part, something that rhymes with that
