Do you think it is horrible to give socks for Christmas?

Every year I send my young adult son socks. He always requests food...so I send him lots of cookies, candy, hot chocolate, specialty coffee, spices etc.

Here's the thing. When he was younger I used to buy him very expensive gifts and he ended up losing stuff, or wrecking stuff, or getting stuff stolen. He is really hard on his stuff.

So now I send him socks and flannel shirts and food. It seems cheap but he never complains.

My question is...would you like to get socks for Christmas? I have a gal pal who sends me socks and frankly, I love it.

OMG! I am soooo happy you replied. I mean my son always says that yes he likes the socks...but then...he is...a very polite person. I usually send him some regular socks then one pair of crazy *** socks which he is forced to wear when he runs out of clean socks. Thank you soooo much. I send you sock smooches!

Happy to help.
My favorites look like the colors and materials on a sock monkey. I've also got Deadpool socks that look like dress socks. Mostly, I wear thin, short socks for the gym.

I would so love the sock monkey socks! I just bought socks with Doberman dog faces in neon colors...a set of Harry Potter socks on sale...and my wildest pair (from my friend) are bunny socks that have bunny heads (like stuffed bunny heads!) --- but normally I just wear white gym socks or black boot socks.

if someone sent me socks I'd secretly be fuming!.

I don't think i'd say anything, because it's the thought that counts, and I suppose it is better than nothing

but really, if I want a pair of ****ing socks, I'll go buy some

Consumerism rears its ugly head. That's just an ugly attitude. Soooo ugly. I love getting socks. Now I will have to discuss this with my son but I am sure he will just laugh because he hates clothes shopping with a passion and he has better things to do than go sock shopping. Your comment really sucks. Bah humbug.

I forgot to mention I got my son a very expensive kitchen knife with a special sharpener because he cooks a lot. And other stuff. I was just mentioning the socks for this thread.

But I really cannot imagine anyone so greedy that they would put down a perfectly okay gift of socks.

I hate this greedy culture and this ****ing greedy consumer holiday with all the freaking stupid Santas and elves and reindeer and awful garish colors the whole thing sucks.

I'm oughta here until the new year.

SorryShaped...high five, brah! Sock smooches!

I love socks, I'd be truly glad if I got some funny ones!
In my family we agreed not to have any presents at all. We've had present - free Christmas for about 11 years now and it's great! We do have the tree, good food and decorations and we do the old traditions, only without getting stressed and spending money on useless stuff just because we're forced to buy something.

Yeah, but that's the beauty of socks...they are very useful! About a decade ago my best friend sent me a dozen socks for Christmas. It was the coolest gift ever. I still have socks from that Christmas in my sock drawer.

I would never do a present-less Christmas. Presents don't have to be big but they can be creative. My son is an artist and every year he makes presents. Last year he made me a wallet from some scraps of leather a friend gave him. He didn't spend a dime but gave of his talent and time.

I love handmade Christmas gifts.

When my grandma was alive, if she was in town for the holidays (she was Jewish) for the first three days of Hanukkah, I used to get such bad *** gifts! I got awesome toys, doll houses, and especially my grandma's favorite; plush lambs.

Then, on days four-eight I got socks. XD

But Christmas I always got awesome gifts!
Then as I got older, the people who sent me gifts each year died... so now I don't get anything,

Oh dear, I so know how that is. Same here. My sister used to send me the most awesome gifts. Especially for Christmas. Never one...always like about ten...beautifully wrapped. With handmade cards. She died three years ago and it is like a Christmas elf permanently left this earth.

The solution is...you have to learn to gift yourself. I have heard people say they are on their own and don't get any gifts. Nonsense.

When I don't have money I get creative. I buy watches at this Children's Toy Store. They are great watches and cost about ten bucks. I also buy kid's hats as for some reason they fit...and are so much cheaper than adult hats.

You are the elf who is going out every four days and feeding the homeless? Okay. You need to absolutely gift yourself. Buy socks and wrap them up for yourself.

Your Grandma sounded fabulous. When those cherished spirits leave this earth we have to pick up their magic wands and continue creating the magic.

I love socks--especially ones with cats on them or pretty colors. I'm giving socks along with other presents for Christmas.

Thank Goodness people are kindly responding to this thread. I feel bad because one person said here it was a bad present. I send my son socks every year. My goodness, has he just been polite in not telling me it's a bad gift?

When I tell him about this thread I think he will just laugh and laugh.

Actually, he's easily pleased. He loves getting food for Christmas. One year his dog ripped open the Christmas box I sent him and ate all the cookies. My son was so bummed.

I love all the sock lovers who came on this thread.

Target has these new socks that are infused with Aloe. I got a pair on sale for like $1.89. They are the softest socks I have ever worn. I have read that eventually the Aloe washes out. But until then...they are gorgeous and insanely comfortable.

Socks are a great gift really. They are not too expensive. They come in a lot of colors and designs. Great stocking stuffers and who doesn't get cold feet. Unless a person absolutely hates wearing them, they are a perfect supplemental gift. I wouldn't get anyone just socks though.
