Hello! I've belonged to this forum for awhile now, but I haven't participated much. I'd like to change that.

As many of you, I'm sure, I really enjoy music quite a bit! I have a range of musical taste, my core favorite is classic rock and other newer types of rock. But one of example that strays outside of those genres is my appreciation for Lily & Madeleine; have you heard of them? I just saw them in Indianapolis last night, which is their hometown, though they moved to NYC last year. I also really like their cello/guitar player, Shannon Hayden, who has some amazing solo work.

People always ask me about L&M's genre and it's pretty difficult to pin one on them, though I suppose at their heart they're a folk duo/band. Lily & Madeleine are sisters, a couple of years apart in age, they have really beautifully matched alto and soprano voices respectively, beyond that I really love their songwriting abilities! They just released their fourth album in about five years, all of them have been really strong!

Quite a lot of their material is on YouTube if you want to check them out, but of course I encourage everyone to buy some of their albums or go to their concerts if at all possible, since it's hard to make it in the music industry these days.

I'll post some suggestions I sent to a friend to give a broad, sparse glimpse at their material as well as some of Shannon's as well!

Okay, I'm too new in posts to use links, so I'll just put a list of songs to look up!

Here's the first song I heard from them and still one of my favorites. "the Middle" refers to Indiana.

Lily & Madeleine - In The Middle

From their first full length album.

Lily & Madeleine - Devil We Know

From my favorite album, Fumes.

Lily & Madeleine, "Rabbit" (Official Audio)

Another one from Fumes that has a lot of Shannon's influence with the cello on it.

Lily & Madeleine, "Blue Blades" (Official Video)

From their third album, Keep It Together.

Lily & Madeleine - "Hotel Pool" [Official Video]

And now their latest album Canterbury Girls, from the park they grew up next to. Getting a much more radio friendly, mainstream sound.

Lily & Madeleine - "Bruises" [Audio Only]

Here's one of Shannon's more accessible pieces. She layers together sections of music with loop recording.

Shannon Hayden "1960's Black and White"

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like it must have been amazing to see them in concert? Are they good live-that is the ultimate measuring stick of talent?

Sure thing! Yes, they're quite good live. They lack a lot of stage charisma, but if you love their music, it doesn't matter. It'll probably be something that may limit them from becoming hugely popular, I hope they're able to continue making a living at it.
