what is your experience of bullying at school
I wasn't bullied much, their were a couple kids who didn't like me and would do small pranks, but nothing that major or serious (I think probably the craziest thing kids made me do was to make me drink/ eat weird stuff) in traditional vortex fashion, this will be a poll with 10? (or how ever many I can actually think of to include.) |

Is there a category for being bullied by the headmistress?? Every morning on arrival, every break time! She didn't like being forced to include lower class children.

3grade the teacher bullied me changed me a lot from a care free happy child to sad. The principal wanted to know what happened to me but I couldn't her her it was her teacher. Then in 7th grade there was a bully who picked on me and many others but I gave her as good as she gave me so she stopped picking on me. I suspect her home life was awful cause the teachers protected her even though she carried a knife....yeah this was decades ago.

Never bullied & I stuck up for kids that were.
I was part of the upper group grade wise & we stuck together & they backed me when I stuck up for kids.....but in general I was in school from 1958-1970 & in our area bullying & even teasing didn't happen. We even had a kid in our grade school class that had been held back several years (before they had special education). He was disruptive in class but most just left him alone & he did his own thing as he just had no interest (or maybe ability) to interface with others. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. I was terrorized by a gang of older boys for 4 years. Everyone knew what was going on. But no one cared... including my parents. At one point one of them beat me up breaking my nose. When he was questioned about it, he said I called him a name. So I got blamed for it. Perhaps it would be too strong to say it destroyed my life. But certainly didn't do it any good...

I was heavily bullied both at home and at school, and while I never give anyone a hard time, if someone tries me even in the slightest I can easily become one. Someone once told me I was like a nest of bees. As long as I was left alone I was fine. I can be very unpleasant. (Which is true). I don't apologize for this, because after HS I didn't take anyone's crap anymore. Period.

Unfortunately, I was bullied a bit when I went to school. I did not realize it at the time as I was a bit of an outsider and thought it was normal. There was one lad, in particular, that seemed to have it in for me.
It's all history now though. I have made my peace with school days. __________________ A daily dose of positive in a world going cuckoo Humour helps... |

I was also bullied and could never bully anyone. I was always the outsider even now as an adult I have always been left out of things. School I was the only one that was left till the last when other kids picked their partners to so something. |

I was bullied in the classroom, not so much on the playground. I was a smart kid and some kids didn't like that.

Just curious.....how do we personally distinguish between teasing & bullying?
The Difference Between Teasing and Bullying | PREVNet - Canada's authority on bullying Yea, I was smart & there was teasing but I ALWAYS took it as a compliment & no one ever went past that. Maybe because I didn't react & just said "thanks" My parents were dysfunctional but not in a harmful way (they just weren't there emotionally) My daughter had an issue with one kid in her grade school class (late 80's) I initially tried to let her handle the situation on her own. When I found out it wasn't working I went to the teacher before school & had it out with her for not handling the situation & at the very least not having changed seats in the classroom with these two kids. I left telling the teacher that if I found out this behavior continued I would let my daughter "deck the &!#@#" & if it went to the principal they would be made aware of exactly what had been going on. It was all resolved. My daughter knew I stood behind her & would take further action if needed but it was also her responsibility to stay away from this kid who was causing problems. Know things like that usually aren't resolved so easily but it was nice that time it was & no other experiences ever came up. My daughter knew (& still does) that mom is the one to talk with when issues in life come up. Good thing my parents never had the need to do that for me as they were basically incapable of standing up for themselves & were always surprised when I was the one sticking up for myself. I WONDER just how much of that is nature vs nurture? __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. We went everywhere together like this. Every day in or out of school, from the age of 9, was my fault for not standing up for myself.

Sometimes we can't stand up for ourselves. Parent backing is important because kids don't know how to problem solve some of the very complex issues involved. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.

I barely remember my childhood. However, I remember bullying others and being bullied at school.

It was a clique of the popular girls who didn’t like me, cut me down. It was upsetting and I avoided conflict with them. No adult stopped it. Thankfully I moved and that kind of thing never happened again.

Oh darling....I met one of those about 10(?) or so years after HS. Came up to me in the mall acting like my long lost buddy...it was one of those times that makes life worth living...

I was bullied a lot in elementary school. But I also was a bully too. A lot of my bullying was in retaliation to the bully’s. I got bullied because my clothes were not name brand and came from Walmart. That really messed me up as an adult and now it’s not uncommon for me to be wearing a $200 outfit.
When I was in 1st grade this girl said her dad was going to shoot me. I went with my mom to the principal and the girl got in trouble for making up the story. That was almost 20 years ago. My mom said If that happened now the girls family would probably be questioned by the police. I remember her dad was super friendly towards me after that and made sure I was invited to the girls 8th birthday party. Of course I was still scared of him even though the girl had made up the story. He did own a fire arm by the way. A kid also put a plastic garbage bag over me in 1st grade. Thank god I was able to pull it off at such a young age. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

I also got called fat and porky in 5th and 6th grade. I was about 5 feet tall and 90 pounds. You could practically see my ribs. The kid who was 20 pounds overweight who called me those names didn’t really understand what I was talking about when I mentioned the dangers of eating disorders.

I was bullied daily , I got glasses and braces in one week at 5th grade , needed braces twice.
I spent a good amount of time in T to get over it, for the most part. __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |
