As most of you know I have an infection on the top of my head possibly a tick bite. I also have swollen lymph nodes all down the left side of my neck. I am on a strong antibiotic that is supposed to treat things like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I started the antibiotic Thursday night and so far my infection is not going away. Right now I am very shaky, the entire side of my neck is swollen and stiff, and I feel like my throat is closing up. My head hurts and I keep taking these deep breaths. I took two .5 Xanax an hour ago along with Advil. It’s not working. Xanax always works. Always. I’m freaking out I have sepsis or some sort of bacteria infection or menigitis and I don’t know what to do. I have my favorite show on. I’m eating dinner. I’m drinking a ton of water. I don’t know if I’m overeacting or what. But my mom said to me “you’ve never experienced anything like this before” and I just honestly don’t know what to do at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had to take a crap ton of Xanax, Advil, and my antibiotic, but the throat closing up feeling finally calmed down. All those meds did crap for my other symptoms. But at least I’m not panicked anymore. I will definitely need to see the doctor in the next few days if things don’t clear up.

Have they sent you for a lymes test? You would need one called the "western blot" its not a quicl test but its definitive.

I think I’m ok I think I was just having a panic attack. I took a 3rd Xanax and I felt better. I actually feel much better overall today but I took a lot of Advil around noon this afternoon and it’s starting to wear off so it may still be controlled with pain medication. I’ll take some more in a few minutes. But I’m actually much better then I have been in days. Hopefully I’ll hear from my new therapist in a couple weeks so she can help me manage my anxiety.

Sometimes Xanax has the opposite effect An NSAID is much better in my personal opinion for inflammation than Advil/Tylenol...that comes from years of MS meds and side effects and having a personalized nurse coach for that. Naproxen/Alleve for inflammation. Use caution with the xanax it can have long term effects if not erring on the side of caution. What if your anxiety isn't anxiety? What if it's a reaction to infection and not the right med for the task?

I just always had the mindset with everything that if I felt better after a Xanax then it really was just anxiety. At least with the panicked tightness feeling I had in my throat last night. It just took a few. And the Advil.

I'm glad you're better--but please go back to the doctor if the infection doesn't get better soon.

I was so itchy at work today. I was scratching my head, face, arms, and neck nonstop. My coworkers were noticing and were avoiding me and acting weird, and I honestly don’t blame them because who knows what they thought I had. I’m still really itchy. I’m seeing my doctor on Tuesday but I also pushed my dentist appointment up to this afternoon. I’m not sure it’s related but who knows.

I got a great report from the dentist. So that solves that problem and the many many problems and anxiety issues that go along with it, but I still feel like crap right now because of something. Maybe I’m allergic to my hair?
