Can anyone recommend a good coverage foundation for the summer? Something that doesnt settle into the pores, is matte but has spf? I have been looking for awhile now. I have two lancomes that I have tried, a clinique, fenty, drugstore brands and I just got an elf one.

Yes I like makeup, but during the week just have time for tinted moisturizer and maybe eyeliner on top lids only since I’m early 50’s. Really like lip gloss and lipstick. Occasionally on weekends will actually do makeup and use foundation, coverage for dark circles and powder, then powder blush. Want to try blush that is the blush that is not powder and comes in a tube for a more dewy look. Dislike the Smokey eye look and tired of over the top eyebrows. Prefer a natural look when wearing makeup.

Rite Aid has many good sales. I used to wait for their 40% off sales on Revlon and L'Oreal.

I also used to buy makeup from Facebook groups and blog sales. I was a beauty blogger, and I would always keep an eye out for fellow bloggers who were looking to unload unused makeup. It was a great way to obtain sold out MAC and NARS makeup. If you don't feel uncomfortable getting gently used makeup, that is one option.

I don’t like makeup and I don’t know how it even works. I went into Sephora one time to buy banana flavored lip balm and I was really uncomfortable in there and I couldn’t even find it and I had to ask someone where it was located. I paid for it and got out of there fast. I love the lip balm even if it was $6 and the process of buying it was awkward.

Try Younique brand. It’s the only foundation along with a primer that never settles into my pores or wrinkles.

It offers a flawless coverage and it doesn’t even feel like your wearing it which is a huge plus fo me.

I tested it by putting on one morning , didn’t remove it at night and it looked just as fresh the second day. Yeah it’s not healthy but I had to see just how good it was.

I highly recommend it.

@KD1980- I just returned to this thread. How do I find groups like this and sales like you mentioned?

i love makeup so so much. i like to take my time doing my makeup, and it relaxes me a lot. i just find it soothing and fun.

my 2 favorite kind of makeup are lipstick and blush, i also love using my lipstick as a blush. sometimes i can use 4 kind of blush, just because lol.
and with lip products i usually use 2 kind of lipstick (for making a subtle ombre look), and top it with lip gloss.

honorable mentions are highlighter and eyeshadow. i love becca's liquid highlighter (i think it's the best highlighter i have tried), and my go to eyeshadow are from colourpop (for the price and quality)

What a fun thread, sarahsweets

I was more into make-up when I was younger, not all that much now - but I love seeing various creative ways of using cosmetics. The biggest reason I'm not that much into wearing make-up is that my eyes are so dry from meds that eyeliner and mascara are incredibly irritating to my eyes.

I have a liner, though...I love to look at it. It's Two-Faced "Hey DJ" and it's kind-of a translucent black with really dense gold glitter. Sure wish it didn't bother my eyes, I'd wear it every day.

I really like the matte lipstick trend.

Has anyone here tried Devacurl hair products?

My hair is blonde, thick, shoulder-length. I have no complaints about it except that parts of it are curly, other parts wavy. I like somewhere in the middle, please. So I've been using Devacurl gel, which is truly amazing stuff. I just started using their "No Poo" today and my hair (which has always been very dry) is so soft and has a nice light curl.

I like using Rimmel. I like their products They are well made and quite reasonable. OTOH reasonable is a matter of opinion based on one's economic status.

This thread has been fun for me to read and got my mind off of over-thinking too much heavy stuff. Thanks. I like your attitude that you feel okay and presentable without makeup, but use it for the joy of seeing what it can do for you. Great way to feel. Like you, I love color.

My first job at 16 was in the make-up section of Walgreens. That exposure to "products" took me from not knowing much about makeup to building quite a collection of appearance-enhancing items. I tried everything. My mother was an immigrant and, culturally, makeup was rather foreign to her. All she had was a compact of pressed powder and a tube of red lipstick. She used them mostly when going to a doctor's appointment. The result was garish. So I learned nothing from her. Plus I had no older sisters. I had to teach myself. Magazine articles helped, and I made a study of the subject.

Makeup utterly transforms my appearance. Without it, I've always been somewhat plain. With it, I was able to turn heads, once I learned how to "get myself up."

I have unusually pale skin that has a sallow cast. That calls for a spare undercoat of a rosey-tinted moisturizer, available in good department stores. Next I apply a very light colored foundation. For years I used Estee Lauder. Lately, I've used Loreal "True Match." For some reason, cheap foundation looks horrid on me. I've found that I cannot use really cheap brands of foundation, powder or lipstick. (Maybelline and Cover Girl are out.) However in eye makeup, it pays to try any and all brands. I do have some mascaras by Maybelline and some eye shadows by Cover Girl. Face powder is essential for me and greatly improves my appearance. I have at times liked "Corn Silk" and a drug store brand called "Physician's Formula." My T-zone is oily to a fault. To look decent all day, I need to frequently blot and reapply powder. I have, at times, bought expensive face powder in department stores. I must always avoid "warm shades" and get best results with shades labeled "cool." Applying blush is essential for me. Pink shades work. I can use nothing labeled "peach." Highlighter here and there can look nice in the evening.

My favorite eye shadows are grey or lavender. Here's where I have a problem. Lavender is a blend of blue and pink. If it's pinkish, it makes me look like I've been crying. I need a lavender that leans toward blue. That is nearly impossible to find. I am on an perpetual hunt for a bluish lavender eye shadow that seems not to exist. (I'm not clever at blending shades to create what I want.)

I have a similar problem with the color, "coral." Coral is a blend of pink and orange. I absolutely cannot wear anything orangy in either makeup or clothing. But coral that has enough "pink" in it can be fine, in clothing and in lipstick. That can be hard to find, as "peachy" shades of coral are more prevalent. I love that shade on women "of color," but it can be dreadful next to pale skin that is sallowish.

I'm not skilled in applying eye liner. Being very light-complected, I cannot do dramatic things with my eyes, without appearing too heavily "made-up." I envy women who can carry off "big eyes." I just can't, especially as I get older.

Having a slight, dental overbite, I have to worry all the time about lip color getting on my upper, front teeth. I've tried all manner of products and techniques to "set" lipstick, so it stays only on lips. Nothing has worked well for that. I just have to keep checking and redoing the lips. I like understated pinks for the lips. I like lipliner. I can't use bold shades. I envy women who can.

As I age, I find "less is more."

I miss the original formulation of "Oil of Olay" that was so very light-weight. It nicely prepped facial skin to receive foundation. When going for a minimalist effect, very light-weight moisturizer, topped only by light application of powder and blush, can be nice, IMO, for daytime.

My eyebrows are scant, but I need to learn how to better shape and define them. I hate the current trend in making eyebrows that dominate the face. Strikes me as ugly.

In my role as 24/7 caregiver for a very sick man, I've almost completely abandoned the use of make up for the past few years. This makes me feel and look depressed, which I am. I've gotten to where I don't care. On the rare days when I make an attempt to do myself up a bit, it makes me feel better. Also people notice and tell me I look good. It cheers up my bf also. But, usually, I just can't be bothered. Times when he's been in the hospital, I've gotten back to putting myself together and liked the effect. But that doesn't last long. Maybe some day I'll give a dang again.

Well that's more about me than could possibly be of interest, but it was fun and diverting to remember how I used to be, when I felt like I had a life. One of these days, I'll get my life back, I suppose.

Recently a friend and I went to an Ulta store and I got so many new things! People shouldn't overlook house brands; the Ulta Collection is pretty good! I got two eyebrow pencils in Dark Brown and Brunette, back ups of their Gel Liner Pencils in Chocolate and Black Brown, Essence liners in Hot Chocolate, Silky Nude, and their Lashes of the Day mascara. I also got Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Moshpit.

I'll try everything out and let you all know what I think.

Last time I was at Ulta I was looking to buy an eyebrow brush/spoolie. One of the staff members told me not to purchase one of the expensive brushes, but to buy an Ulta brush - much less expensive and works really well!

I like the morphie brushes. Not sure if that’s an Ulta brand but they’re great.

3/4 years ago I had more money for things like makeup. A friend started selling the make up line Younique.

It is by far the best makeup I have ever used. I’ve always had trouble with finding the right shade of foundation and something that honestly will look great when I put it on and still look great 12 hours later.

There eyeshadow are so pigmented I have 5 pallets and honestly I’ll never need to buy more.

I do love Ulta tho... it’s a playground for women is what I call it. I do buy a lot of my nail polish there. A few hair products if gotten there are fantastic.

The only time I really wear makeup is if I have a doctor appt, my life is really boring lol

Pffffft....the biggest excitement of every week is planning outfits to wear to therapy appointments. (Yes, I feel pretty pathetic.)

I've tried the Ulta pencils. They're all good, but I was surprised that Dark Brown worked better for me than Brunette (a tad too dark). I love the Tom Ford eyebrow pencil, but that is $44, so I'm always happy to find a cheaper dupe.

The Essence eyeliners are all great. I'm surprised at how well they work on my waterline. I haven't tried the mascara yet (using up my Cover Girl Lash Blast) or the UD lipstick. I've had good experiences with the line, so I'm assuming the lipstick is great.

I've been wearing makeup every day during quarantine. I find it helps with my depression and overall mental health, and I need to use up many things. Here's my product list:

Colourpop concealer in Medium 36
Bobbi Brown corrector in Dark Peach
L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte powder in Sun Beige
Tarte Toasted palette
UD eyeshadow in Beware
NARS Bengali eyeshadow
UD 24/7 eyeliner in Demolition
Lancome drama Liqui-pencil in Chocolat
Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara
Bourjois Round Pot Blusher in Rose Ambre 74
Besame lipstick in Cherry Red
