I’ve been on seasonanle birth control for over 9 years. I’m supposed to be getting my period 4 times a year with the pills. I keep missing periods though. I’m not pregnant. I still get horrific PMDD But my period never actually comes. I’ve missed 2 out of 3 periods since September. I’m supposed to get a period next week. I’m really worried I won’t get one.

I’m scared to talk to my doctor because I don’t want her to take me off the birth control because I don’t want to deal with my PMDD every month. And I don’t want to switch to a different BC because I’ve heard of women switching BC and gaining a lot of weight. So is it bad to stop getting your period on birth control?

I was on the nuvaring for several years. I eventually stopped having a period within the first year. Naturally I was concerned and went to the doctor. They did a bunch of tests and scans and everything came back normal. I haven't had a period since, well until a new doctor put me on a different birth control. I got so used to not having one that when I actually had one I was like "nope, not for me" and stopped taking the bc. The doctor that prescribed didn't seem too concerned that I didn't have one, just the nurse.

Have you changed any psych meds? Some like antipsychotics can make you miss your period.

I was thinking the same thing. I figured since I was on risperdal after I stopped the nuvaring is the reason why my period never returned. Then again, I've always been irregular.

Yes risperdal increases prolactin which makes your body think it’s pregnant and thus stops it’s period. It’s one of the worst for this.

No I didn’t switch psych meds. The only thing I can think of is right before I started missing periods I switched generics. Same birth control but different generic. I’m not sure if that’s related. I did go to the doctor when it happened the first time and she did tests and they were fine and she says it can happen sometimes with BC but now it’s happening all the time. But I guess if it’s nothing to worry about... I just don’t know what to tell my doctor at my annual in September. Hopefully I get my period this week.

Day 2 of the placebo. I have zero cramps. And not much PMS either. I’m worried 9 years on birth control finally caused me to go into extremely early menopause. My moms like “well now you never have to worry about having kids.” Well that’s not the point so....

Sounds like you are worried about it. Try not to worry about telling the doctor. It's the job they get paid for. Plus they can also request tests for hormone levels to see what is happening.

I think the alternatives to gaining weight far negatively outweigh such. Is a little weight gained not worth it to know you are not seriously ill? Talk to your doctor I urge you. Remember too we are not healthcare professionals so I wouldn't be trying to self diagnose or seek advice from us laymen. You need to seek it from a professional.

Hopefully I’ll get it soon because I have these god awful cramps and you’d think that would mean a period would follow.

I haven't had mine for a while on the Pill either, but am also on an antipsychotic. It couldn't be menopause (I don't know your age but it can be about the same time your mum stopped)? I am a lot younger than my mum was when she stopped but I think with life stressors and the meds I might have stopped early or it could be the antipsychotics.

The Last day of the placebo and I got nothing but physically sick. I am anxious to get started on the new pack tomorrow morning with out without a period.

You know, stress and nutrition can factor into missed periods and the overwhelming feeling of malaise that can come with hormonal fluctuations. I'd speak with a doctor however to rule out other causes.
