Is there anything someone can do if someone is breaking HIPPA by posting personal patient information on Facebook? Is there a way to report it and also stay anonymous?

Go to HHS.gov . There isn't from what I understand a way to file a complaint anonymously, but on the form it is said you can specify you want your name/info kept anonymous to who you filed the complaint on. Fb is kind of lame when filing complaints. It seems not much goes against their "" community standards"".

I'd also try your state medical board. Who is committing the HIPAA violation? Is this your doctor's office? Or a doctor? People often think HIPAA is all encompassing or that it covers things that it doesn't. Depending on whom it is, for example, if it's not a medical provider, then they may not get in trouble. And depending on what it is, they may also have had the patient's permission to release the information. Is it your protected health information (PHI) that's being released without your consent?

Also if the patient who the information is about IS NOT NAMED & the information itself ONLY is discussed, that is NOT a HIPPA violation either.

Sorry. I think I overreacted. I’m under a tremendous amount of stress from my anxiety and paranoia. I fixed the problem by just deactivating my Facebook for awhile.

FB is worthy of self regulating measures. My Gawd, what frustrates me
about it, is I scrolled through 3 days ago. I interacted with some yesterday. Today?! Today of all things sort of relavent and conversation worthy things popped up in my feed from ...3 days ago...yes, things that were.not.there when scrolling 3 days ago. FB is there to make money. If they hurt you in the process, I wonder if they intend to or unintended victims of their algorithms?? Glad you figured it out.. |

Somebody might give the info with permission of a person who is sick. A friend of mine (also a colleague) is very ill. She gave me a permission to update everyone. So I’ve been updating people at work re progress of her recovery. Certainly not violating HIPPA.
