I hope this is the right place. I have never had a big party. But my youngest daughter is wonderful, got straight A's and we decided to give her a sweet 16. She has been to 4 sweet 16's this year and they were super fancy- ridiculous really with gowns and themes. We cant afford that. We rented the local community center. We put a deposit on a DJ, those are the biggest expenses. Her theme is an 80's/rock and roll. Here are the centerpieces: I made 19 of them:Creative people I need your help! Throwing sweet 16 for my daughter.

Here is the photo booth we are going to make:Creative people I need your help! Throwing sweet 16 for my daughter.
The center pieces will have fairy lights inside them. The polaroid frame will be for a photo booth where people can take pictures in them holding signs. I got donations of records and I have to figure out how to use them without marking up the walls. You cant hang anything from the ceiling in this place, its not allowed and its super high.
I am making a lot of the food. I am going to cater a few things she wants like wings, vodka rig and eggplant parm. I am making mac and cheese, fried chicken and I have my MIL making something and my mom and brother bringing something.
My daughter (El) wants bottled teas and seltzer. Some of the usual chips, veggies and fruit apps. I need ideas on decorating and anything else you can think of. I have about 70 records that were donated and I got sticky tack to hopefully stick them to the wall. Her favorite color is yellow, so we have yellow cloths and all that, and yellow candles for the candlelighting ceremony.eHow

A candle-lighting ceremony for a girl’s Sweet 16th Birthday is a coming-of-age tradition. The ceremony spotlights the teen and gives her an opportunity to show appreciation and attention for those who are important to her. This is an old tradition that brings friends and family together. It is typically done prior to serving the birthday cake.
Her ceremony will be with candle holders because she will be having cupcakes. I need your help with anything you can think of regarding, decorations, food, supplies I may have missed- anything. I am having a lot of anxiety about doing this right. We have about 50 people (mostly family ) coming. The party is 8/17.
I dont mean to bore anyone but help me to see what I missing and could do.
This is what I thought of so far:
Food (planned)
Napkins, plates, silverware, cups
tablecloths
guest book
records
centerpieces
photobooth
polaroid film for pictures
order cupcakes
candlelight candles and holders
lighter
duct tape
trash and recycle bags
music list
coffee
creamer
sugar
sternos
trays
stands
serving spoons
goody bags with candy
invitations (went out saturday)
table namecards

I know this is long so I hope you do not mind. I would love to have you all be my secret weapons and I will share pics of it all with you!

My friend just had a party for her daughter and had an artist come in to do a paint party. It was a real hit for everyone - adults included.

Wow! Sounds like a great party!

How about some 80s themed props people can use in the photo booth.

Walmart has some pretty journals you could use as the guestbook. You could also ask people to write a favorite story, or a sweet 16 message in addition to signing.

You could add 80s themed stickers or clip art to the namecards.

Happy sweet 16 to your daughter. She has an awesome mom for putting this together.
