I'm so glad my favorite season is coming up! Who else loves autumn?

What do you love about it?

I love: apple cider, pumpkin donuts, muffins, all the pumpkin foods, Halloween candy sales, cooler weather, the Charlie Brown specials, boots, getting to wear darker makeup colors, horror movies, and the leaves changing color.

It is already here. Had to wear a warm coat and mitts this morning. But I love it. I love the layered look of the season's fashions, I love walking through fallen leaves, I love the seasonal beverages that come out, and I love decorating for the coming (Canadian) Thanksgiving.

I love autumn. Autumn and Winter are my favorite seasons. It's starting to cool off a bit here, it will much more by mid October. I love everything about it, the cool rainy days, all the beautiful leaves, being able to wear hoodies , Halloween 😃

Summer and Autumn are both great for me. Mainly due to my green fingers.

Autumn got lost here in Ky for at least a few more weeks. Still getting hot temps into the upper 90's. Maybe this is so we really appreciate the cooler weather when it finally comes. I went out in the afternoon yesterday & my horse was sweating. Had to hose her down to cool her off a bit.

I love the warm fall colors, the red maples right outside my family room/sun room.

I really agree with HappyCrafter.....fall, frost, no bugs (chiggers & ticks & horse flies especially.....spiders seem to come indoors though).

I can cut back brush easier than when it is covered with leaves & I just have more energy to get things done.

Fall is my fave too... I love the brisk coolness and the fact that it starts getting a little darker earlier in the evenings. It's cozy.

But, here... it doesn't feel like we're even close. I went out for a late lunch, and a sign that I saw couldn't decide if it was 96 or 97 degrees. The weather website is saying it's only 93 now, with a heat index of of 98!

Yikes!

Northern California...today is gorgeous, 81 degrees, breezy. This week-end is predicted to be upper 90's Ugh. But I think our mornings will be autumnal now. I, too, love autumn. It's refreshing. I do have a history of hitting a really rough mental state around the time change, so I hope that pattern will break this year.

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons besides Spring, love the falling leaves, pumpkin, and winter squashes, delicato, spaghetti and butternut. Don’t forget cider donuts, mmmm.

Awesome. I think that would be squash? I have one in my pantry right now - I love fall veggies. I always bake yams and carrots the minute it gets chillier. I love it.

Time to make apple, beetroot and celery juice. Sip on warm tea. I actually have some Tetley around . Then there's the foliage. The soft breeze. The rain. It feels so nice after these dog days we've had all summer.

Yes - squash! Here we have quite a few varieties, but butternut squash are our favourites. Versatile in recipes, they also contain a fair amount of potassium, calcium, iron and vitamin A..and probably more. Fal;l veggies like squash keep well in a cool place and left untouched. Butternuts have very tough skins so mind your fingers when cutting them in half.

Do you grow your own veggies? We do, and my daughter even has a large bin containing potatoes. A few weeks ago I drilled holes around the bin.

I know we can't eat horse chestnuts, but our neighbour says putting the 'conklers' in corners of the room will deter spiders.

Less screams in the house, then...

Oh, that sounds really great - you sure know your nutritional values! Sadly no, we don't grow our own. There's no space, living in a studio and all - but we do buy organic produce.

Regular chestnuts are great. Just make a small indent in the shell and pop 'em in the oven. Don't keep 'em too long though, cause they'll go dry (happened to me one time). If you feel in the mood of something more gourmet, you can always puree them. Serve them with chilled whipped cream.

And back to the butternuts, yes I do agree - they're tough fellows! I usually cut them over a big board and sharpen my knife beforehand.

Thank you so much, but we are fortunate in having a sweet chestnut tree in the rear of our garden and though the sea wind rips off the beach from across the road pretty rough sometimes, we do gather a remarkable amount, some we give to our neighbours! I have a recipe using sweet chestnuts, but believe that when dried, they can be ground down into flour to make yummy things. Or so my knowledgeable youngster keeps telling me!

I used to be a healthcare professional which is why I have nutritional knowledge, but I've long since resigned the NHS for health reasons. Just so glad to be gone, but that's for another time, I guess.

Prepping the chestnuts we slit their skins and bake them in a pan on our woodstove. But sometimes I just do them on top of the kitchen range, depending on what time dinner is.

On the internet is an amazing amount of recipes! It's astonishing, really incredible what we can find these days. As I remember, but Clement Faugier produce a very delectable chestnut spread, and it's not too sweet either. The tin has a rip-back lid is labelled as Creme De Marrons Chestnut Puree.

Might take you up on serving them pureed with whipped cream. Sounds yummy, so thank you!

I've written that down and I'll look for it next time I'll do my groceries. For the time being I'm just having baked mac and cheese. I mostly make vegan recipes, so I made the faux 'cheese' myself - I'm also lactose intolerant, so even if I wanted to have cheese, I couldn't really.

Enjoy the lovely fall season!

Sorry I can't seem to take my usual relaxed time to post this afternoon because the forum keeps logging me out!!

Mac and cheese sounds awesome though the addition of grated Parmesan as a topping mixed with vintage cheddar using Jamie Oliver's recipe below. Do you like tomato ketchup? We're crazy for it when having mac 'n' cheese.

Autumn is my favorite season, too. I love many things about it. I tend to feel very good in the autumn, but am not usually as vulnerable to mania as I am in the spring. There is a very special smell I love about autumn. It's especially evident where I live from New England down the coast of the mid Atlantic states.
