I had a serious clog in my kitchen sinks(one has a disposal in it). I googled diy dissolve clogs and one was for what I have on hand.
I poured half a cup of salt followed with some boiling water on each side of my sink. I followed with more hot water after a bit. It was draining very slowly. So, I repeated it 2 more times per sink. OMG!!! It worked like a charm! Some of yawl prolly know about salt and hot water but it is new for me, LOLOL __________________ "Love you. Take care of you. Be true to you. I did not know that. Thanks for the tip.
Did you know that the best way to get rid of weeds that are growing up through the pavers is to just pour boiled hot water on them? Very environmentally friendly. |

I recently had a very stopped up toilet (wasn't me) lol
I looked online and the only thing I had that were mentioned were salt and dish soap. Well...a generous squirt of dish soap gave an impressive amount of suds when flushed a couple times. Didn't work. Wanted to get rid of the suds to try the salt, and the salt popped all of the soap bubbles. Still clogged. Called landlord, got it fixed by someone who knew what they were doing. Lesson learned: salt and hot water might work on kitchen clogs made of grease etc, but does not work on...you know. Lol __________________ |

It doesn't always work. Depends on how bad the clog actually is & how far down the pipe.
I got a special auger for toilets. Some just won't unclog any other way. My kitchen sink was clogged when I moved into the house. The painter tried the long snake auger but didn't do a good job. I finally took the pipe apart under the sink (disposal on one side & filtered drain on the other side) Used the bigger & longer snake but it got stuck so I bought a smaller diameter snake that worked with my power drill. I got it as far as it would go & the sink was still clogged. After that I used the bigger snake & finally broke through the clog. I think I worked on that problem for a week before finally making my break through. While I was at it I also fixed the leaking pipes under my kitchen sink. Yep....saved a plumber bill but it was work. Lots of turns in the pipe down in my basement so that was why it was hard to snake the drain & pipes. It had been building up long before I owned the house. I have become good at east plumbing jobs & pipe repair. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. If you let the dish soap set for a few hours - they recommend Dawn - it should eat the grease and yeah soften "stuff" up! It did work for me. But ive read that you dont want to do it too often cuz it will cause leaks on the trail down, because it eats up the good grease sealing the pipes.
Whenever i boil water in the kettle, i pour the rest of it down the kitchen drain. This seems to help. |

Thank you, HC- I didn't know about the salt/hot water trick.
I use 1 cop of baking powder & 1 cup white vinegar for sink clogs, then let the hot water run for a few minutes. __________________ |

@HappyCrafter you can also unblock clogs in sinks using a mix of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. Also works in toilets. Caution: it quickly gets fizzy, so you have to work fast. Use eye protectors.
Check out You Tube videos. There are many. |

@BethRags
@accessdenied Yes, I love using the baking soda and vinegar, but I was out of those two so I gave the salt and hot water a whirl. __________________ "Love you. Take care of you. Be true to you.
