Years ago, I related to Eeyore. I also wanted to reach out to Eeyore and hug him. Today, I'm more like Pooh bear - constantly curious about stuff. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and PTSD, among other things, so I don't have as much energy as Tigger, and I'm not as youthful as Piglet.
When I reflect on Eeyore, I don't just consider him, but also his friends. His friends never judged him; they accepted him and hung out with him. His friends were also authentic, meaning they weren't co-dependent on Eeyore's pessimism, but rather they were accepting of Eeyore while maintaining their own persona. Take Tigger, for instance. Tigger bounces and fills the room with his energy - even around Eeyore. Eeyore and Tigger get along, even though they are two different characters. --That's friendship. And Eeyore, doesn't try to be as energetic as Tigger when Tigger is in the room; Eeyore is authentically Eeyore. I love Eeyore! If he were real, I'd totally give him a hug. I wouldn't try to change him. I'd simply accept him the way he is and invite him to outings, like the Winnie-the-Pooh gang does. That's community! That's love! |

When I was a kid I never understood how or why Eeyore could be sad all the time. As an adult I get it. Funny story I saw an episode one time where Pooh Bear tried making him laugh by tickling him with a feather. He did laugh.

I feel the same way about Eeyore. When I was a young man in college, I expressed myself to others much like Tigger (bouncing around a lot), and actually received it as a nickname for a while. As I got older and came to terms with my depression, I began to empathize with Eeyore much more - and with the way his firends accepted him, as you said.
Love this post you made! |

Great post and great analysis! I love Eeyore and his friends! I used to identify with Eeyore as well but I’m more like Pooh these days.

Thank you! Yay - another Pooh fan! I like all of the characters, actually, but Eeyore and Pooh are my faves. It took me a while to identify with Pooh. Hee hee. |

@seeker33
Thank you! The little/young parts of me helped me to discover this. There's so much healing in cartoons sometimes. So many healing stories we can all find when we look and revisit. |

@bpcyclist and @SlumberKitty and @Fuzzybear - Thank you all! Eeyore has always been one of my favorites, and always will. Although I identify more with Pooh bear these days, I will never forget the parts of me that also identify with Eeyore at times. I'm so glad to be among Eeyore and friends fans!

I totally forgot that episode. I will need to see if I can find it somewhere on YouTube. That is too funny, though I'm triggered by people touching or tickling me, but I can somehow laugh at that. Pooh Bear is cool, as are Tigger, Piglet, Roo, the Owl (forgot the name), and of course Eeyore. Eeyore will always be dear to my heart, as I can still relate to Eeyore at times. I just wished I remembered Eeyore laughing. That would be cool to see. Hee hee. |

I had an Eeyore collection, but my old roommate really wanted it before I left and moved, so I gave her my entire collection. She was so happy, which made me happy. I haven't created a Pinterest account (not sure that I will), but I do look for Winnie the Pooh and Friends online when I'm feeling down - or even feeling giddy. Such a small world! |
