I remember the first sign there was something wrong with my dad (who had dementia) is that he became obsessed with winning the lottery. And now I am following suit. <g>

Unlike him I am doing scratch tickets... which have good odds. So far I have mostly made all my money back, but not sure if I can keep up with it as it seems a LOT of work to go to the lottery place every day and redeem and then get new tickets.

Also, just not sure that people who don't win aren't cheating. I always find it weird when someone wins 2 or 3 times.

I only occasionally play like powerball when it gets huge....you can play it online here so no lines. Of course it has the worst odds...it seems like most of the people on my lottery dream home have won on scratchers. Out of curiosity you aren’t on abilify are you.....it’s been shown to increase gambling....

I only played that one time when it was over a billion. My dad did the office lottery thing. Whatever it’s called where they all chip in for a ticket and if it’s a winner they all share the money. Not sure how it worked.

No, I'm not really into gambling or what have you.

I've only played it once and won £10 on it.

I remember that night sitting their by my computer waiting for the winning list of numbers to come up- refreshing the page every 20 or 30 seconds

it was so exciting when I realised I won!

I honestly don't know why i've not played since.

I guess it's got a lot to do with not really having the money to buy tickets

(which is a reason I should play more anyway.)

we used to have a game in the UK called " winning lines"

it was like the lottery, but rather than random numbers, people submitted their phone numbers, and if the 6 numbers match any of the numbers in your telephone number, then you could win something (depending on how many you got)

and now they do it for postcodes

Occasionally, but playing the lottery isn't really my thing. I think I'm more likely to be hit by a meteorite than win!

I find the scratch tickets the best odds. SO most scratch tickets give you a pretty good chance of winning something. The one I play has an 80% pay out. However, most of those prizes are just paying for your ticket. Also, you get to participate in a "second chance" drawing, it is very cool. You scan in your losing tickets via bar code and are entered in a second but lower drawing.

The biggest draw back to me is getting them. I don't frequent places that sell lottery tickets and there are zero paces around the place I work.

I have decided to devote a weekly budget to buying them until 2020 and see how I do.

I used to love casinos in my younger days, both the tables and the slots. The most I won there was $300 (as in I came out up that amount). At a pub on a VLT I won $1300 once. On the actually lottery my biggest was $3,000.

I found gambling fun, but it was never an addiction in any way (not saying you have an addiction, just my own story). I would give myself a set amount that was in my entertainment budget and spend only that.

Now though I buy a lotto ticket now and again, but that is it. I simply lost interest. I think there is nothing wrong with playing provided people don't spend more than they can afford.

We have a casino where I live but I don't really know anything about gambling so... not gonna try it.

Also that involves leaving my house

I learned to play the games as I once didn't know either; of course the leaving the house thing makes it more challenging! (Playful response btw).

Oh, right. Then I might buy a scratch-and-sniff ticket after all and see if I have a better chance of winning than ordering a G&T in a crowded bar.

Hope you get a win, @Emily Fox Seaton

When the lottery rolls over a few times I basically donate a couple bucks to the state of Tennessee. I have no real hope of winning, but it’s worth a shot.

I do play lotto from time to time. Mostly scratch cards. When it comes to the big draw's [we have one big draw twice a week in Ireland and also have a chance to play a big euro draw too] I tend to play maybe once every two months or so. I do like to dream about winning, who doesn't!
If I did win i would hope it would be for a mid-size prize. 1 or 2 million. I would never be able to keep a big win of 60 million-plus quiet.
I would certainly donate some to St Mary of the Angels. That's a service center for the disabled and handicapped.
