Hello all,
I just wanted to say something that is on my mind. I know now that Institutions will protect Institutions; Whether that be Public, private, non-profit healthcare sectors, Police, Judicial system, Universities, Distress Lines, etc... When there is a liability client, each institution will protect the abusive institution. This can happen for many reasons; primarily legal. While in some cases it is merely corruption driving this behavior, or conflicts of interest, in some cases it can also be cultural: things like the tendency to victim blame and shame, or the tendency to believe those in esteemed positions of power. Or the tendency to believe that anything corruption or abuse of power is synonymous with paranoia, and thus, mental illness. Institutional Betrayal is when one organization decides to protect an abusive perpetrator within that institution, while on the flip-side, they will often victim blame and shame the survivors. *I am beginning to think they need to invent a new word* Something that describes the way in which Institutions will not only protect perpetrators working within their own Institutions, but that they will also protect fellow abusive Institutions, IF the survivor should seek out help from additional Institutions after the fact... For example: Client is abused in therapy in the public healthcare system, leaves and seeks help in the private sector. The private sector protects the public sector, by destroying the credibility of the survivor and forever cementing a story of lies and deceit in advance for potential lawsuits or complaints. Then the client goes to the non-profit sector, but they also protect the private sector, which in turn, protects the public sector. Why does this happen? Lots of reasons. Mostly legal. Partly Financial. And most definitely partly fear based and bureaucratic. *What word could best describe this tendency for Institutions to protect Institutions?* Thanks, HD7970ghz __________________ "stand for those who are forgotten - sacrifice for those who forget" "roller coasters not only go up and down - they also go in circles" "the point of therapy - is to get out of therapy" "don't put all your eggs - in one basket" "promote pleasure - prevent pain" "with change - comes loss" |

My T says really bad things about the abusive psych hospital a few towns over. Yet the clinic I go to never does anything about it. I think they just think it’s not their problem.

Very interesting HD and I think a lot of it has to do with the litigious nature of things. I am trying to think of a word or phrase..
Institutional shielding? The Helmet factor? Project life vest" HEAL- hide, evade, attack, lockdown. (this one is my favorite) Quote:
