I have been feeling like this for 15 years. I have kept most of it bottled up. I have an excellent therapist who has been helping me come out of my shell. I finally told her last week I am not a women. Today we talked about my options. She brought my mom in. I told her I’ve been keeping it to myself because in 2011 I told an abusive therapist I wanted to be a man and she told me I was just confused. It really traumatized me. My therapist and I are going to be working with another doctor who will help me get on hormone treatments. I will eventually get a mastectomy. But I got the diagnosis today of gender dysphoric disorder. My mom supports me. And I know the rest of my family will too. I am so thankful to my therapist for helping me out.

Mountaindewed, that's great news! We must all be true to ourselves. I am happy you finally have a bit of relief. All the best on this journey! I look forward to hearing about it more, if you are willing, as you take it.

@Mountaindewed

Ok, not being familiar with this process, please, help me understand. The hormones will help you develop manly features? Please, feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Thanks everyone. I know my family will be supportive. I am worried about one of my uncles I am very close to. I know he’ll be supportive I’m just not sure how easy it will be for him. My mom said to maybe take him out for drinks and tell him. I know all but one of my cousins will be very supportive. But that cousin has always been a jerk. My autistic brother won’t get it but my mom is going to talk to his therapist and doctor about how to talk to him about it. I know I’m going to have to eventually tell my job when the process begins.

But I know I will have a lot of support. My mom was thinking of moving a few hours away but she is putting that on hold for the foreseeable future so I can stay in the area with my doctors and therapists. It’s a very exciting process.

I’m taking things slowly. I see the doctor for my first appointment on January 14th. Until then I’m just slowly telling specific family members and enjoying Christmas with my immediate family.

@HappyCrafter Yes that is correct. My body shape will change, my breasts will shrink and I’ll start developing facial hair. Eventually I’ll get a full mastectomy. I’d like to get a hysterectomy but my hospital is unable to do that part due to religious reasons.

I hope your transition is smooth and easy. There are a lot of trans groups on Facebook, if you are looking for a online trans community.

Congratulations on your transition. May there be support for you on your path to your true gender. I know such a man whose my friend and he's quite happy with his decision to become transgendered. I wish you my best.

I saw the doctor today. Things are starting to happen. I have to get off my birth control first but it looks like I could be starting testatrone in a couple months. I am very excited and the doctor was very nice. I was worried I’d just clam up when I got in there but once I started talking I couldn’t stop. It went very well.
