Growing up, neither my husband's nor my family ever decorated so early as many Americans do, nowadays. I am a native born American of Anglo-Irish descent, but we still didn't decorate THAT early. Both of our families always had real trees. In my family, my dad would go to his parent's woods and chop down a tree maybe two days before Christmas. They had a small forest of evergreen trees. In my husband's country of Czech Republic, "Little Jesus" brings the tree (and gifts) on Christmas Eve night and gifts are exchanged on Christmas Eve night, after the big dinner. Both our families would usually leave the trees up for a week or so after New Year's. As for decorations, other than maybe a wreath or poinsettias, other decorations besides the tree would go up no earlier than a few days before. My husband and I do the same in our household. We never had kids, so there's no pressure to do anything differently. I guess if we had kids, we would have had to find a way to meld Czech and US Christmas traditions. I suppose it would be a little confusing to kids born in such a combo household.

Czechs acknowledge Saint Nicholas, but there, Saint Nicholas only comes on the night before the Feast of Saint Nicholas, which is in early December. In CZ, Saint Nicholas comes to the doors of children along with the devil and an angel. He gives small gifts (small) to good children. They may also have little treats to eat. There is no Santa Claus in Czech Republic, and Saint Nicholas does not come on Christmas.

Oh that’s pretty cool. Yeah it is different everywhere.

Hahah she doesn’t put up with crap haha one time she heard how my dad spoke to my mom (she was again maybe 6 or 7), and said “grandpa that’s no way to speak to anyone at all, you ought to apologize immediately”, she literally dragged him to the kitchen and made him apologize to grandma. He actually did.

I heard of that show. We actually had this same discussion at thanksgiving about if people change much since childhood. My brother and I both think that who we are early on that’s who we are. Couple of other people didn’t agree with us.

No you shouldn’t live in such environment. Unfortunately since it’s their house you can’t say much. Try to move out

Are you in school? If not then look for full time job

I just saw that you work as a para, unfortunately they aren’t getting paid much at all. Any chances of doing something else or second job ? I was a para years ago but I worked other jobs nights and weekends to make ends meet

Oh wow, yeah she sure didn't take crap. And I agree, who we are early on is usually how we will be into adulthood. There may be some small changes but not much.

No I graduated from college in 2015. Yeah you're right, para's don't make enough. Currently at my part time position it is 17.39 an hour but it's only for five hours a day. One place that I'm looking to be a para at full time is only 16.30 an hour for 8 hours. So a little more but still not enough. I just may either get a totally different job all together or get a second job. Working as a para is a good starting job but definitely not something to do for life and nothing else.

I am just going to put up one little string of lights and call it good. No tree.

My mom was like that when I was younger, 100 different rules about how everything had to be placed. It wasn't relaxing at all.

These days with the pets, I don't bother. I figure things will get broken.

Yeah decorating seems to stress out people a lot for some reason when it doesn’t need to.

Well posting Christmas cards is something I rather not do but feel obliged too. My inner Scrooge, I guess

Yeah it's something a lot of people feel obligated to do. At least towards some people who they may not really care for or are not very close to.

That’s not a bad pay actually. Are you in the classroom? Classroom paras here make barely above minimum wages. It’s not livable. Plus no benefits
