The thing that give me anxiety about using that website (or any other website that makes my writing public, for that matter) is that I don't know what to post on there. I write a lot though.

@WastingAsparagus
I understand. What do you like to write about? I stick to subjects I know the most about. __________________ "Love you. Take care of you. Be true to you. @HappyCrafter
I like to write about philosophy, meditation and spiritual things. You know, I've never really sat down and thought about what I like to write about--funnily enough--so thanks for posing that question! I also like to write a certain amount about everyday events that happen to me, but I don't really want these getting publicized. I write fiction and poetry, too, but I don't think I want those pieces getting on the internet quite yet. Haha. |

I hear you and I feel the same about so much I have written!! Writing about my experiences really helps me vent and take a step back to look at what happened.
You want to hear something funny? Well, maybe not funny, but unexpected. My mother was the driving abuser in my family. So naturally I vowed to never EVER be like her! Her goal was to become a published author. She was a university professor who taught Spanish and maybe history, I can't remember. So, as the main abuser, she also drilled secrecy into my head. So, now, in my life, I include her in my writing. I am grateful I have healed enough so I can do that. And I don't cry anymore when I do write about her. __________________ "Love you. WastingAsparagus since writing is your passion I would encourage you to apply for a MFA in writing. You can audit a course first, which will only cost 1/4 of the full course price. That will give you an "in" so to speak to the MFA program, or at least improve your chance of acceptance because you'll have taken 1 course, and you can use that professor as a letter of recommendation. If you want a masters or bachelors with a practical application, go for accounting, a degree where you go for a license or certification.
You can also get help with your application essay. There are services for that offered at the local library, at a work force career center, at the local community college or college career center. Or online (you have to pay online, the other ways are free assistance). I commend you on everything you have been through. You can turn those life experiences into stories. |

Thanks! I've thought about doing an MFA in creative writing for a few years now. The only thing is I'm an expat living abroad right now doing another type of master's degree. Ha. So it'd be hard to do that at the moment. But I am feeling more and more alienated, so I might come back to the USA, anyway. |

You can always apply to an MFA program and stop the MA program that you're in there now. That's awesome that you're an expat. How exciting! That experience alone could fill a book of essays or short stories for you to publish someday. Sorry to hear you feel alienated where you are. Is it due to cultural differences?

Yeah that's true about stopping the MA program. Alienated wasn't the right word. I am just feeling overwhelmed and stressed, being where I am. It's hard. Trying to navigate things in a different country is difficult. It is exciting at the same time. |

Hopefully this doesn't count as commercial interest (I am not earning anything from it); in the case that it does constitute that, a moderator may delete this post, but I wanted to share that I did post an article on Medium.
