I could end up losing my job. I'm on furlough, but that could change to 'you're fired'. Anyone else?

I'm sorry you have to bear that stress of uncertainty, AceRimmer. Have you started to do any research to prepare for such a possibility? Obviously there are many issues to consider.
My husband still has his job, but a few weeks back his employer sent a mass email to employees saying that their jobs "are safe for at least the next 30 days". Prior to the stay at home order, nine of his colleagues had been laid off. It's definitely possible that more layoffs are on the horizon. It's certainly possible that my husband will be laid off. The question is if they offer severance packages or not. The nine that had been laid off got them, but who knows what future people will get, if terminated. This is anxiety-provoking because we had not planned on this. My husband had wanted to retire in three years, but if he's let go, the tentative plans we had will be totally changed. We cannot afford to live where we do that well even with him having his current job. Without his job, we will have to leave. |

I am sorry. It’s tough. Did you go on unemployment? You can do it while on furlough

I'm not hearing anything from my boss. I texted her last week and asked if she wanted me to come in to check on the instruments - I am a chemist. We have an ion chomatographer that does better when running constantly. She just said I am out until at least 4-15.
Tomorrow is 4-15 and I have not heard anything. I will text tomorrow and see what I get. I don't know if anyone is going in at all. People may still mailing samples to be tested in and I don't know what is happening to them. Is anyone calling the people and telling them we are shut down.? There are a bunch of samples that had some analytes finished but were waiting to be completed for metals analysis. I asked if anyone was going to call them. Got nothing back. I have no idea what's going on. I got paid for my first 2 weeks off but an e-mail from personnel made it look like we may go unpaid now. I don't think anyone knows anything. I don't know if I can get unemployment while on unpaid furlough. I have 300 hours of vacation time. I would rather get paid for that. I will after 6 months if I get laid off. That happened in 2010 the last time I got axed. __________________ The Universe needs an Ace |

I actually have an opposite problem. I almost landed a job before the outbreak hit hawaii but so far two companies tried to hire me during the pandemic. My family doesnt want me to work because of all the crap going on and I cant buy anything because I have no money. This **** sucks

I texted my boss and she said we are still out with no return date in site. Maybe May 15. Maybe earlier, but she really doesn't know. She said we are getting paid.

Glad to hear you're getting paid, but I can understand the stress of not knowing what's going on or when/if you're going to go back. I'm sorry.
I'm working remotely, but really worried. The focus of my team has changed, and I feel kind of irrelevant at this point. If they need to lay someone off, I think I'd be at the top of the list, which feels horrible. Hang in there. |

I'm still not 100% certain I'm getting paid. I checked the website where they show us our pay and the tab that's normally there is gone. And the e-mail I got from personnel said to use a covid-nopay code from now on. I guess I have to wait until next Thursday and see if any money has been deposited into my bank account. At first this was supposed to be a 2 week break, but then it got extended and now it's indefinite.
