This is the thread to share our healthy lifestyle victories, struggles and goals
No matter how big or small your goal is, we can all share here and support each other. Doesn't matter if you're getting ready for a marathon or just trying to eat less junk

I'm both proud of myself but I also think I made a mistake yesterday. I am trying to lose weight and live healthy. Yesterday we had the first snow and it was a beautiful sunny day. I also wanted to have a quiet place where to record a video for my therapist DD So I went to a meadow covered with snow. I was the first person to walk there in the snow, which was up to my ankles. It was uphill and it was a little windy too. I'm still officially considered "obese". But I walked there for about 45min. I felt relatively OK and I was so in my thoughts thinking about what I wanted to tell my therapist that I don't think I was paying attention to my body. I returned home very cold but OK.

However, I also planned a large calorie restriction yesterday so I ate less than usual. I unexpectedly had to be active the entire afternoon, too (only at home but I moved). The result was being sick and shaking from exhaustion in the evening. But hell... I was so stubborn that I refused to eat more than I had planned because I was so angry with myself for not losing weight. Today morning I had my reward- I've lost half a kg yesterday. But despite eating my normal calories today, I felt very weak and ill all morning and I had to take a nap in the afternoon which I never do. I only began feeling better in the late afternoon. So yeah, I'm proud of myself but I also don't think I want to repeat this again.

Good on you @seeker33. Your inspiration of trial & determination is definitely encouraging for me. Grats on your progress!

One goal of mine is to stay alcohol free. So far so good at 7 days abstinent.

I have been working out every weekday and have lost some weight. It was long over due - still getting in shape.

I realized I felt a lot happier on the days I worked out.

I have also tried to eat better and less.

You can do it!

I generally live decently healthy life style as I don’t smoke and don’t drink and don’t do drugs (never tried any), but I don’t work out enough and I gained weight when I hit menopause. I’ve been eating better past three days. So it’s an accomplishment! You can do it. Congrats on making good choices. It’s hard isn’t it

My little farm keeps me in shape pretty well without actually working out. Figure I must be somewhat in good shape since I (by myself) am able (at 66) to unload my truck full of 26 bales of hay & carry 50 lb bags of horse feed into my garage feed room.

My horses field is sloped downward into my woods (which I love hiking around the streams in)...so coming back up to the house is a good up hill hike. My horse was shipped here last summer & she had health issues after arriving (major change of climate & feed availability & trying to find what works) so I haven't been able to ride her yet....but that is planned for the upcoming year. She is already trained for dressage riding & has done some jumping though that is one thing I don't do. All this activity had been good for losing some of the weight I gained over last 1 1/2 years when my focus had been totally on care giving to my precious soulmate doggie who died of lung cancer.

Lol....my house contains my natural stair climber exerciser also. It is a 2 story house with basement, so doing laundry is always a 2 flight of stairs exercise day.

I have come to the point where I eat very little with preservatives in it. Use mostly organic foods. I make my own coffee creamer....ok....yep, I use real cream, real butter & refuse to eat stuff that is basically man created. I am also careful about taking any medications. I try to let my own body immune system fight off bugs though at times things like decongestants are necessary. It feels good to be off the pain medication I was on for 20 years though I am very thankful for the quality of life it gave back to me....now I am able to control any pain using natural help.

I also realize just how much the less stress life I have now has actually helped my health. When I was in my bad marriage I was constantly sick & in & out of both medical & psych hospitals constantly & struggling with anorexia. Other than the pain specialist I was seeing (stopped 3 years ago), I had to see an ortho when I fractured my back in 2011 (coming off a horse that bolted). I have never gone to my PA for being sick.....so I guess my non-stressful life contributes greatly to my healthy lifestyle.

All in all, I have to say that when my mom was my same age, she sure couldn't have handled the life I'm living so I must be doing something ok

I think part of why I can do what I do is because I was always into sports. From the time I graduated with my degree & started my computer engineering career, I played hard games of racquetball with the guys from work every day & played in tournaments. Skied every winter both downhill & x-country. Exercised in PT like a fool after having ACL knee reconstruction because I was determined to be skiing 6 months later. Lol....the older I get the less typical exercising I choose to do & just let the physical work do its job but I am definitely going to need to get my core muscles back in shape before I begin riding again.

Summer involves more work here. Mowing fields & yard & keeping brush cut back & maintained. I love my farm so I really enjoy working on it & so far so good with maintaining my health. Think healthy lifestyle in my younger life must have helped at least a little

My goal is to become super fit and to eat better. I’ve lost 35 pounds on the way to my weight loss goal but I’ve let myself go since Thanksgiving. It’s time to get back on track.

I appreciate this thread because I've been loosing weight gradually over the last two years by eating healthfully but gained back 20llbs when I started taking Zyprexa which made me ravenous. My pdoc has put me on an appetite suppressant to combat the side effect and it's working somewhat. I still get the munchies at night and am trying to deal with this by eating fruit.

One of my new years resolutions is to get more physical--walking, doing yoga, etc.

just beware because ALL fruits have Fructose & that is a sugar. If eaten at night with no burning of calories that can also slow your weight loss process....but I know how good it tastes

I'm going to have my exercise and meal plan done by a fitness coach! This is the first time in my life when I've asked for help. Of course i knew i was fat but i was way too ashamed to let someone test/observe my body. That's why i never go to the doctor either 😂

I'm now just 5-6kg away from being only "overweight", not "obese" but I still think i need help and advice.

My plan will be ready next week and i can't wait to stop calculating everything and stop being obsessed by creating perfect meal plans! Now I'll simply eat what my coach recommends and relax mentally! I think the simple fact of psychological relief will contribute to success! Because right now, the element of planning and calculations is causing me some serious stress.

@seeker33 sometimes the choice you are making is really the best. It helps break old patterns & form new ones with guidance rather than having to figure it all out on your own & then implement.

Less stress involves is really the best way. Rooting for you with this

I threw away my weight gaining meds this morning. I called my insurance about my gym membership. I’ve decided on 2 places since I don’t have to just pick one gym. I’m going to use a chain gym to climb and swim, and then my local gym to use the machines since they are not usually busy around 1-2 in the afternoon. I was going to focus on eating less until February and then start going to the gym because I’ve heard that’s when most people stop so it will be less crowded. My therapist won’t approve of any of this but I think I just won’t tell her.

That's awesome Denise, such a balanced lifestyle!

@Mountaindewed that found like a very healthy and positive resolution why do you think your T won't like it?

My therapist thinks all intentional weight loss is an eating disorder. It’s really frustrating. She thinks intermittent fasting is unhealthy restricting and she just turns a blind eye and I honestly wonder if she’s just jealous of anyone who has success losing weight.

I see, it's so frustrating to have a T who diesn't understand nutrition! It's a really thin ice...There's such a thin ice between ED and healthy diet! It happened to me, too... Once I was describing what felt like pathological eating disroder thoughts and my T interereted it as a normal diet attitude when I needed her to help me. Other time, I described something normal and common in fitness world and she assumed it was pathological! OMG so frustrating!

I used to firmly believe in calories in vs calories out and that’s it. But I’m kind of desperate to lose this weight I’ve gained. It’s just I’ve been watching a lot of Project Runway and all the models no one wants to work with are the same size or slightly smaller then I am. And I weigh 171 pounds. Also I am gender non binary but am trying to transition. But I don’t look male at all. All the gender non binary people I’ve seen you can’t actually tell what gender they are. With me you can clearly see I am biologically female and that is absolutely killing me right now. So I am desperately trying to get back to the 147 pounds I was before. So I’m eating 1,280 calories. But I’ve also been reading up on these new ageish ways to burn calories. Like taking very hot showers and baths and drinking hot tea. The way I am looking is frustrating the hell out of me. I still think I’m being healthy though with my weight loss.

Oh honey I'm so sorry you're going through this! I understand you don't like what your body looks like. Have you maybe thought of gaining muscle instead of making yourself invisible? Do you think that getting physically stronger and lifting weights would make you feel better about yourself? And you could eat properly and wouldn't have to torture yourself. BTW hot tea and bath will make you sweat so you'll lose water weight but as soon as you drink water it'll be back. And you'll make yourself dehydrated, that's all. It's exactly the same as "losing weight" in sauna.

I apologize if this was inappropriate or offensive. I wrote this with the kindest intention but i know how i hate when someone tries to give me unwanted advice so please just ignore this if that is the case.
