I am hoping (always) that having to spend time alone with family, and all the massive adjustments that come with that, will assist some people in getting a clue about what life is like for an awful lot of shut-in people. I imagine it will only be people who are naturally thoughtful and sensitive, anyway--not the yahoos that are demanding that everything re-open and who are heading back to beaches, bars, and restaurants like lemmings. (They will never get a clue, obviously.)
I remain hopeful, too, that people will rewind a bit and take stock of what really matters---maybe re-set some of their priorities, and understand how dear friends and family really are, etc.. That would be a good thing, in an age of rampant de-personalization. And I love that the environment bounces back so quickly, without us always spewing our toxins everywhere. That's a plus+plus!! |

At first I was in a rush to look for a full time job immediately finishing grad school last spring, but then my options were limited and then the outbreak blew up, so I’m either on hold with applications or positions have closed. After years of hanging with the wrong groups in college, often against my will, it’s been beyond liberating for me to take a break from constantly being around people/living life around deadlines and allow myself to recuperate from years’ worth of anxiety and bad sleep habits. Since my “job” now has been to upkeep our yard and ranch, our garden is about as beautiful as it’s looked since moving to our house in the 90s! So in a way THANK YOU STAY AT HOME ORDERS!!

I think it has made me focus a ton more on myself and on self-care.

It forced me to learn to slow down, relax, and take it easy.

I slowed down whether I wanted to or not and that was a good thing.

Well, hello old thread. Knew you were lurking somewhere...
Anyhow, one positive I've seen (that is a response to a negative) is that after so much shut down, taggers went nuts (the bad part). I make no bones about it -- I HATE taggers -- they make things look absolutely trashy. But in response -- now here is the positive -- many buildings are having giant colorful murals painted to deter it. They are so nice. And work for artists! Yea! __________________ ********* Mr. Robot Makes me sick to the heart, Oh I feel so tired. And the way the rain comes down hard, that's how I feel inside. --The Cure

a local radio station where I live launched a helpline especially dedicated to talking to people who have been affected by the isolation.
that's good in itself, but they are hoping to continue it even after the pandemic. this wouldn't have even been a thing if it wasn't for the outbreak.. the helpline wasn't planned before. |

We usually eat pretty well, but we are eating even more healthily. I found a few suppliers of fresh vegetables that deliver to my house. I make a big order every 10 days or 2 weeks, so we are definitely eating more vegetables and we aren't going out to eat. Everything is much fresher than the produce in the supermarket too.

Working at Walmart Canada, we always had the parking lot full of RVs every summer and they brought mess. This summer, due to covid restrictions, we had no RVs in the parking lot

I like that now when i order stuff i don't have to see the delivery person and can stay in my jammies. They just drop it at the door, knock and dash. I like that a lot of restaurants that didn't used to deliver, are now. I like that my IRL support group is offering a half-hour one-on-one phone chat once a day with a peer-support volunteer every day of the week. I also like that they are offering a one-hour ZOOM drop-in every day of the week. I like that the food court at the local mall is quiet and there aren't those huge groups gathering there anymore.
I got a burst of energy in the Spring (bipolar) and i cleaned out my bedroom closet and dresser. I have ten bags of clothes to donate. I also cleaned out the drawers in the kitchen that were too stuffed to close. Getting things done! As a recluse, many of the changes due to COVID-19 are welcome and i hope they continue after a vaccine is found. Last edited by Anonymous41462; Aug 31, 2020 at 12:24 PM.. |

I like that my med provider does tele-medicine now and she calls my scripts into the pharmacy. Before she would hand me a paper script. So there was always a delay in getting my meds.

In normal times, I was driving to a place about 20 miles from home for work related meetings every 3 months. I hate the town I have to go to, and the first time I went, I got lost because I took one wrong turn when I was almost there, and had to go round the whole place again because of roadworks. The sat nav wasn’t much help, either, but I did get there in time, despite ending up detouring into a teaching hospital car park and then an art gallery, of all places!
I swear if my driving had been filmed that day, and set to music, it’d have been like one of those old slapstick movies. I even nearly knocked someone’s wheelie bin over I went there in March, but not since then. THANK GODS! |
