I am putting this here in the hopes we can discuss this with not political talk. But how do you think the world will change due to the corona virus?
I think: 1. People will rethink living so closely dense to each other. In my city I am always stunned when they choose to build housing right on top of people. I hope people will start rethinking that and demanding money be put into better roads and public transport. Public transport is always packing us in like sardines. 2. I have been driving into work all week and I am amazed at the roads. It is like it should be. 20 minute drive to work instead of 1 hour. I feel kind of jipped that I don't get this every day. I should get this every day. Why don't we have seriously staggered work hours and more people working from home? Why? 3. My managers were always fighting us working from home and wouldn't give us it. Unfortunately... now we all have it plus we got this thing "Zoom" which is amazing (video conference meetings from anyplace). There has always been a preference for "in person" but I think going forward that is going to be cut back. When this is all over I am going to propose to my boss that we have one day per week we designate from home. How can he argue against it? 4. I do think that entry to this country will be re thought in much the way the TSA was put into effect after 911. We just have to start being more careful and the smartest way is at the point of entry. 5. I do think China is going to take a hit. When the every day person is annoyed with you, you're in trouble. 6. Stock market, well truly the stock market has shown itself now to be unreliable. So many people I know who were set up for retirement just weeks ago will now have to work longer to recover from the stock market disaster. I don't think the country can ever put large amounts of retirement money in there. 7. I think people will embrace the "prepper" lifestyle a bit more. Thankfully I had done it a little earlier but a lot of people now see how the supply line can really shrink up. It is good to have 2 months stock on hand. 8. I think masks might be a much bigger deal. I predict products like gloves that look normal but save you from germs. Ultimately though thinking back on it... almost every shock to the system in my lifetime has resulted in very little change in the end. Often things just get back to normal within a year. What do you think? |

I'm inclined to agree with your last observation that, when this is all over-&-done with, everything will mostly go back to the way it was before. I suppose there may be some small shifts here-&-there. But I doubt there will be any major changes that will occur as a result of Covid-19. Perhaps there may be some new medical discoveries?
By the way, I had my first "Zoom" experience this week. I'd never even heard of it before! Apparently Zoom is HIPAA compliant. Fortunately we have a neighbor who is a nurse & uses it regularly in her work. So she was able to guide me in setting it up on my old laptop. Without her, it simply would not have happened. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." I agree about the back to normal (until the next thing hits)
I think that families that really get along well may start to value more time together to enjoy being together. Maybe people will value "me time" to relax a little more though when work gets back to full force, I kinda doubt it. I definitely think there will be some medical advancements that come from this & also everyone may have a new appreciation for being more careful about illnesses even the flu & colds. Before when people were sick they would just continue like normal, infecting others around them. Maybe this will cause a greater awareness & concern for others. (We can hope at least). Stock market has always been volital....2008 helped make that clear too. In my college business classes "ride it out" was the strategy taught. I sure hope that the open border thinking will be made clear it is NOT a good thing....but that remains to be seen. It will be interesting to see the actual effects over time __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. We went everywhere together like this. But I thought it was insanely user friendly. And don't think I didn't look up stock in the company, which has gone up $40 dollars in the last month. |

One thing I can see as a permanent change is more people working from home. Companies can see it works now, and will in the future, probably view it as a great way to cut office space costs. So I can see smaller offices overall with a large proportion of the staff working from home.

more attention to basic hygiene (washing hands for example). before this outbreak, despite it being what you taught kids, not everyone washed their hands when they went to the toilet, and that's gross! (maybe now they will.)
maybe a rise in use of video chat services less crowds at the supermarket?. maybe people will realise that actually, we don't need to go as regular as we did possibly a greater respect for people's space (you don't all need to cram yourself so close together on the train, for example) |

doing more things from home
like haircuts for example: people realising they can cut their own hair at home, so don't need to visit a professional- and if that happened, we could see more homes opening their doors to people who come to get their haircut from them (businesses from home) |

maybe more general concern for your health in general
a rise in visits to the doctors for things like coughs, for example |

Hopefully it might act as a wake up call for at least some people that life on this earth is vulnerable - life on earth is precious. You see how easily mother nature can just take it all away? That's the true meaning of the saying, 'The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away'.

My brother in-law was texting me last night. He said he’s very interested to see what post corona world is like. He said he remembers what pre 9/11 World was like and it was completely different before and after.

I don't know but the health of the citizenry is the most important part of a nation....
that is abundantly clear. |

We just got notice that we are basically starting up some things that would have been unthinkable before by zoom. I can't tell if i like or hate it.
It is definitely more work but I can't help but think that if we do this for a while there can be no argument about doing it in the future. That is good news for me because some of my job is stressful with a lot of IMHO Needless running around. But doing this by zoom will allow me to sit the entire time. |

I think for sure the grocery industry is about to change. A lot more people will start going online to grocery shop I think.

I predict the world will cooperate in creating , marketing and distribute a vaccine that is used worldwide. Plus real effective and safe treatments. I say safe relatively speaking since virtually every drug includes side effects, adverse reactions.

I agree that people are going to be more careful about washing their hands and more aware of where they put their hands in the first place. I don't think people are going to be looking at common publicly used items the same after this (like grocery carts, self check out machines, that salt shaker at the table of a restaurant, etc.).
Some industries will probably die out while others become more prominent. I'm really curious how the concert industry and live shows will be impacted. What about going to the museum and other leisure activities that aren't restaurants? We shall see. __________________ Blerd Girl |

I also wanted to add that doctors i think will be more willing to do telephone appointments. Now I was annoyed yesterday that I needed a non telephone appointment and they wanted to give me one and I had to demand an in person one, but MOST doctors appointments DO NOT NEED to be in person. I also think more medical products will come into the fold. Such as something to allow you to show your doctor some rash or something in a way that is accurate to real life and allows a single person to show something in an awkward area. I also think that people will be encouraged to keep basic medical devices around. Such as the Pulse Oximeter so that YOU can take your complete and accurate vitals.
