I will start with some of mine:

traditional child ones: little red riding hood, 3 little pigs, the brave little taylor, the house that sneezed (I wore that one out as a kid), alice in wonderland

I also enjoy mythology stories, mainly greek mythology (hercules being a favorite)

the oscar wild fables are also nice.

selfish giant is one of my favorites

I like the true ones

The one about Richard Simmons yelling at my aunt in an airport for giving my cousins Twinkies.

A coworker who thought the 7 deadly sins was a porno.

That massacre at that chicken joint back in the 90’s.

My uncles encounter with John Wayne Gacy when my uncle was hitchhiking in the 70’s.

if we're talking about favorite true stories, I have 2 of them.

first my sister asking me why the wrestler's face was covered in ketchup (so cute!), and the second a woman ordering a pizza and generally asked the question if a meat feast pizza had any meat on it

lol. I just found that hilarious

and stupid

of course it does

hah

I agree with those who like the true stories best. I love special memories and enjoy storytelling. There are so many to choose between. One of my favorites:

I was almost 25 years old, and working in a temp job between stays in Taiwan R.O.C. I had been dumped, in a sense, by my first love about 9 months before. One day at the job, my boss told me to ask a certain employee to print out a report. I knew few people there, so had to ask where the employee sat. I saw two names on signs outside the office she directed me to. One was the man I was to ask, the other seemed like a German name. I asked for "Tom" and he looked at me. After I shared the request, Tom grunted in a most shocking way. I turned with a humored surprise look on my face and saw the man with the German-sounding name. He was smiling brightly at me, and I smiled back, and we both gave a flirty "Hello!"

I could tell the smiling and almost golden-looking man had a foreign accent, so I asked if he was from Germany. He responded "No, I'm from Prague," likely thinking I'd have no idea where that was.

"Oh! I've been to Prague," I said. "I went there about five years ago on my way to Poznan, Poland. What a beautiful city Prague is!" This golden-man smiled extra brilliantly at me then, but I left his office to return to my desk.

Soon after the above encounter, I noticed the golden man occasionally peeping around the corner at me, smiling, and giving a wave. Days later, I received an email from him, which was clearly an excuse to start a correspondence. This went on daily, which I enjoyed.

One day at this job, I felt a little hunger come on, so I walked downstairs to the vending machine. Since I have a sweet tooth, I recall wanting to buy a Snickers bar. But as I was putting the coins in, I noticed the golden man coming towards me, with his smile, of course. He asked me what I was getting, and I responded "I feel like some hard pretzels", a lie that would sound less indulgent than the candy.

"So what is your favorite dish to eat?"

Truthfully, I shared "I absolutely LOVE roast pork with sauerkraut!"

"Really!?!? That is the national dish of Czech Republic!" he exclaimed, with jubilance.

Long story short, I was asked to go to lunch with him that day, and about two years later, we married each other in Prague. We just celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary. Much love, many smiles, and many dinners of roast pork and sauerkraut.

Wow, what a fantastic story @BirdDancer, a happy story. Thanks for sharing it - it's really quite a special story. 😊😊😊

Jack and the Beanstalk's better, though. Just kidding. 😂😂😂

Well.... given my current relationship issue, I'd have to say, "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". We have a copy and I read it to my girls.

I always like telling the story of how I almost got hit by a train in Indiana. I was on the eastbound side of the tracks and a 3-4 miler was on its way through. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, the train finally passed and I put my head down to run across. A westbound train was coming off the tail of the eastbound train, the conductor STOMPING on his horn. I came to a dead stop and froze, probably 10 feet from the westbound tracks. I still remember it clearly to this day. I never picked my head up, never really saw the westbound train until I moved 30 seconds later. I honestly think the engineer never forgot it either......probably the closest I've been to getting killed.

My favorite stories come from game lore. I love Star Wars The Old Republic. My favorite story line is playing the Sith Sorcerer. I also like the one for the Bounty Hunter.

World of Warcraft has great stories too. It's the Horde against the Alliance. I've played both Horde and Alliance. I prefer the Alliance.

I also love the story in The Matrix.

I always like telling the story of peeing in the phone box

I was too busy on the phone to realise what I was doing, and after I hung up I noticed the wiress and was like... oh. oops

the guy had to put a sign on the door " out of order"

embarrassing at the time, but now I just laugh about it. if you have to go, you have to go. nothing to it

I once was using Google Maps to navigate in a small town in Argentina. It didn't work too well because it directed my parents and me to the wrong location. We were trying to make it to the airport on time to fly back to Buenos Aires. Google Maps had directed us to a random field instead of the airport. We were supposed to return a rental car, so this was where Google Maps thought the rental car drop off place was.

After that, we finally made it to the airport, where the car rental drop off place actually was.

However, I had to make a call to the people at the rental car place so that they would tell me where the rental car drop off place actually was.

I remember my parents didn't have any cell phone service. So they couldn't contact me when I was inside talking to the rental car people trying to return the car.

My parents were told by a policeman that they had to move. In broken Spanish, my parents told the policeman something that allowed them to stay about five minutes more.

This was all while I was inside speaking to the rental car guy, trying to get the car paperwork figured out so that we could return the car.

Finally, we were able to return the rental car. We were somewhat afraid we'd miss our flight, but it all worked out.

It was one of those stories that was stressful in the moment, but I look back on it as humorous.

We didn’t want to take Pacific highway all the way down from Redwoods NP to San francisco so we took highway 5. We already went up on Pacific so we wanted to go down faster using something else

We didn’t know it will go up and down mountains. Ciscu (sp?) mountain and Anderson grade summit. I’ll never forget it. When we came down I threw up and went inside McDonald’s for the bathroom and lady asked if I just came down the mountains because I looked like I saw ghost. It was so bad when we were up there my boyfriend at the time yelled what that stench then he realized it was him sweating so profusely. Lol We were both shaking like a leaf. I never cussed so much in my life

It was not even that high up, just how highway was going like a serpentine.

My brother once passed out skiing in Alps (and that’s like twice higher up than CA). Lack of oxygen got him bad, wasn’t as much fear. For us we were just petrified that we will fall off, there was no border or nothing. That highway 5 was a he$$ on earth
