1. Live alone for some time- many people move from Parents home to spouses home and have no idea how To run and maintain their own Home
2. Fully support themselves for at least some time, be a sole provider without other persons’ income- it’s astonishing to me how many people never ever supported themselves, never paid their own bills, not a day in their life 3. Take care of sick or elderly parents or disabled family members- don’t mean doing for a pay or just occasional visit, actual taking care of a sick or dying or elderly family members/friends 4. Travel outside of their own country, I don’t mean exotic resort where you don’t see anything outside of your cabana. I mean actual travel. At least once in your life time 5. Learn foreign language. Not necessarily saying be fluent but learn enough to have some basic communication/grasp or at least try to learn 6. Donate for a good cause. Money or objects or volunteer time. 7. Visit a capital of your country. I was shocked how many people never visited capital of their country, and had no good excuse for not doing so like having a disability etc No, just weren’t interested, didn’t make an effort 8. Vote. Not just presidential but local elections. Again so many never voted |

A lot of good ones were mentioned!
I guess my list would be: 1. Travel abroad and stay there for at least a month. 2. Take some time and try to understand opposing views. That doesn't mean you have to end up agreeing with them, but just try to understand what goes into them in an open-minded way. 3. I really like the suggestion above to live by yourself for some period of time. That offers an important learning experience! 4. I agree with the learn to swim and ride a bike. 5. Learn at least rudimentary music theory and explore different styles of music. 6. Read a lot, and different styles of literature. Read translated literature of a different country. 7. Have some basic understanding of your country's history, your local area's history, and world history. As a bonus, study a bit of geography, too. 8. Take the time to better understand, in an open-minded way, the issues faced by people with a disability. If you are not a person of color, take time to learn about the issues people of color face. Take time to better understand people with very different religious thoughts. Talk to them. Ask questions. Live among them for a while, if possible. |

You're far from alone on this. I'd screw up plenty of it, too. And singing it? My singing voice sucks. The US anthem has too many high notes beyond my range. Also, the lyrics are antiquated, in my view. It is time for an anthem for my country that reflects more of a modern day. Just my view. I don't see this as unpatriotic.

Great thread! Some of mine are:
1. Learn how to cook. 2. Do some traveling. Visit another country or more. 3. Learn to meditate and practice mindfulness. 4. Contribute anyway possible. 5. Learn to love and accept yourself. 6. Visit Vegas 7. Camp out and sleep in a sleeping bag. __________________ ‘Live for now,’ ‘This too shall pass,’ ‘Everything is happening for my good.’ |

I can sing well, but the National Anthem is a notoriously difficult song to sing The range from low/high, high/low is crazy.
This thread is amazing. I love it! I will add...learn to be alone. Not the lonely kind of alone, but to be in solitude and enjoy it. There was a book I read many years ago, I think it was called Solitude: A Return to the Self. That book really got me thinking about the nature of solitude. __________________ |
