As the title asks, were you an only, oldest, middle, or youngest child (or somewhere in one of those ranges)? How did your position in the family affect you growing up?

I'm the youngest of 3 technically. I have an older Brother by 4 years then I have an identical twin sister older by 1 min.
It didn't change anything I was the black sheep of the family. My Brother was the prodigal son, my twin the princess and me...... the black sheep |

Youngest of 3. Big gap between them and me so I'm kinda an only too.

Another youngest child here. My sister is 6 1/2 years older than me, and my brother is 5 1/2 years older. My sister was quieter and less rambunctious than my brother and me. My brother and I got the most attention because of that, but my brother suffered more consequences than I did, especially from my father. I was a bit of a daddy's girl when I was a little kid. Later down the road, not so much. I believe we were all loved equally, but because my brother was the only boy, my mom gave him some "only boy" attention. Of us three, though, I was more the friend to my mother (in addition to child), than my siblings were, mostly because I was still around after they left. One advantage that I really had was that my parents had much more money during the period after my siblings left home. I benefited from that a bit, but I do believe my parents tried to be very fair, overall.
I did have issues with bipolar disorder as a teen, and was also more demanding in terms of hobbies, and other stuff. |

Youngest of 3. My brother is about 2.5 years older then me and my sister is 4 years older. I got all the youngest child privileges and I was also my dads favorite and he had a hard time hiding it. It was very noticeable to my sister. I often feel guilty about it now.

Only child... How did it affect me growing up? I'll spare you the details...

Oldest. Only by 17 months. My brother and I are similar in many aspects plus so close in age, so it didn’t effect me in any kind of way.

Middle but my sister wasn't really raised with us until she was a teenager and she passed when I was 21 so it's like I'm the oldest. Pretty much raising my little bro fell to me(we're 10 1/2 years apart). I'm the responsible one and the favorite. I hate being the favorite. Just the other day my dad got me a present and didn't get one for my brother. Bro's response..."It's ok. I'm used to it." No one should feel like that or be made to feel that way. It breaks my heart.

I was the youngest. One brother was 2 years older, another brother was 9 years, and my sister was 11 years. I've often felt like, in being the youngest, that I'm the one who was expected to give in to the others and serve. I hated that. Also my sister still thinks I'm a little boy. I guess that's how she sees me.
My parents had passed away many years ago and so has my brother, who was two years older than me. |

I was alone a lot as no one wanted to hang out "with the baby ". Current t mentioned that while I have siblings, with the age gap and displacement/removal of siblings, she'd say I grew up as an only child. How did your position in the family affect you growing up? Immensely I used to describe that I observed a very dysfunctional family while growing up and tried to learn a lot from others. It affected me a lot as I look back and still does. Still learning... some times idk how I've made it this far... while I have issues absorbing a comment, but current t has mentioned, it's some what a Miracle of what I came from and where I am now and who I am. Idk.. and as ****ed up as it may seem to me, sometimes I feel bad for wanting to be better than where I came from. But I had to.. and yet at times -I question if really am, as I have issues with bonds, still have that genetics and my own traumas to muddle through... and a part of me- just wanted a family. Love. and at my age now, at times I question if I am even sure what that really is. Other times, I am good with what love i see any given day even at work or strangers with kindness or my fur babies. __________________ "A laugh is worth a hundred groans in any market." Charles Lamb

The youngest sister of three. Same parents, but my older sisters 18 and 15 years older than I. The middle sister, whom I loved very much, died 2 years ago. I've lost most of my extended family because my parents were middle-aged when I was born.
My sisters and I had extremely different childhoods, since they were out of the house by the time I was 4 years old. __________________ |

Only. And technically not even supposed to be that , since my mom thought she couldn’t get pregnant.

I`m the middle child . I`ve got two sisters. My parents never seemed to play favorites with us. My older is very maternal and always looked after my little sister) not because our parents didn`t my Mom is an excellent mother ) but because it was just in her nature. My little sis and I didn`t get along sometimes just your regular old sibling rivalry . Now my little sis and I get along very well. We go to concerts together and do fun stuff together. My big sis and I do fun stuff together too. My older sister has 3 kids and my little sister has 4 children and we all love each other and get along with each other.

Only child.....long line of only children. Both my parents were only children, I was & so was my daughter. Makes for a small family. Only family I have now is my daughter.
Growing up, somewhere early on I grasped that my dysfunctional parents wanted to keep me their baby all my life & with my very independent personality that WASN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. I put my focus on education & making something of my life. Even though it felt like they wanted to keep me their baby, there was no emotional connection felt (thus the dysfunctional parents). I learned early on that my parents weren't capable of real problem solving so with my independent personality, I learned to solve my own problems or at least figure out what I needed to do. I grew up in an all boy neighborhood so I learned to be competitive. They were all really smart kids so that increased my competitive sense in school also. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. I'm the younger of two, but I'd say I've been a bit more protective than my sister
At least I tried |

Its my sister and I. We are 13 months apart. She's practically my twin. I need to think about how or if the age difference affect her and/or me.
