Hi: I was just wondering how fast everyone types. I type like 70 WPM which I think is kind of fast. But I honestly spend a ton of time typing things (I am a writer, too).
I figured this out by going to a site that calculates WPM for me. I think there are some free tools to calculate WPM on Google if you're interested. I thought it was kind of a fun topic, so I decided to post it here. There's a free website called Typing Test * Improve your WPM speed where you can test your skills. __________________ "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. I think the last time I typed was 2 years ago on a computer at work. And that was just to put my work password in. I don’t type very fast at all. I text really fast though.

Sometimes I think about trying to improve my typing speed. Can it be done? I think it'd be a good asset / skill to have for a job.

You're a fast typist, Asparagus! Thanks for the link, it's fun.
I'm a pretty crummy typist. I've always typed about 48wpm. I've never gotten the fingering and not looking at the keyboard down. And I make mistakes. Oh, well. I kind of enjoy typing, anyway. __________________ |

Ok....back in 1966 when I took a typing class on a REAL typewriter that you had to move the typewriter every time you came to the end on the line on the paper I was typing about 65+wpm with no mistakes.
Seriously, typing on a computer with a word processor is much faster. I mostly use my phone now though & 1 finger typing is SLOW __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. We went everywhere together like this. Fast. I don't know the exact speed. Obviously I am much faster using a real keyboard rather than the one on my phone.

Typing, well to be frank I can only do about 5 words a minute! Inbetween stopping and going and humming to myself about grammar!!!

I also learned on a proper typewriter, then used an electric one.
Was 60+ wpm but that's slowed since job changed. Last one really involved answering e-mails and typing letters, not the lengthy reports and transcribing dictation of early career. Started as a shorthand typist but no way could I match the court stenographers taking live notes during cases! |

Not as fast as I'd like. I'm still always looking at most of the keyboard as I type. I think I missed that window you have when you're still young to acquire a skill like this.
I took a refresher typing class in my thirties, to learn the differences in a computer keyboard (as opposed to an electric typewriter). I reached a certain speed, & have not sped-up since then. Feel kinda stuck! |

55wpm on a typwriter in high school. I don't know my speed on computer but I suspect it's at least that.

I am not a fast typer. My students tell me I type like an old lady. It’s too funny. I laugh with them. I’ve never learn to type fast. In addition I am trilingual with English being my third but I type the fastest in English, go figure.
