I was awakened at 2:30 am by gunfire outside my apartment building - must have been at least 20 shots. It really freaked me out, I couldn't get back to sleep. And the police came and talked to me this morning.
Nothing like this ever happens in my neighbourhood. splitimage |

I'd be scared if that happened near me! I hope you're doing okay after that.

Hope that you’re ok. This is happening more everywhere, it seems, I hate it.

It's happened to me (shootings within a block of my home) so many times, I've lost count. Seriously. Everyone around is a victim when shootings occur. I'm really, really sorry you have to experience such an upsetting event. If you have ptsd from the experience, don't be hard on yourself, because such a reaction is normal.

Thanks everyone, I'm ok - other than being a bit shaken up. Everyone in the building is talking about it. The consensus seems to be it wasn't people from my building.

Sorry that happened. I'm glad you're Okay. We had a shooting in our building a few years back. It does shake you up. I hope you recover quickly. Sending good thoughts your way.

Just shooting? Did anyone get shot? It is scary. Where I live we do target practice often but one night (midnight) when I was up at the barn with my horse some people drove by on the road....shooting. called dispatch & reported is so if any farmers reported anything the next morning the sheriff would know when it happened & it was scarry

Eskie, yeah it was just shooting, no one injured thank goodness, or I'd have a lot harder time dealing with it.
From what I could hear, my windows were wide open, and it happened on my side of the building it sounded like a group of younger guys - maybe early 20's, all talking very calmly. They had Caribbean accents, likely Jamaican given the part of town I'm in. |

I know that's scary. When I moved into a big city (and not like a city with suburban sprawl but I mean truly urban city), the way I saw crime so up close freaked me out for a bit. Crime really can happen anywhere. People complain that myneighborhood, which is actually really nice, has gone downhill, but that's not true. (They're just angry it's not all white anymore.)
Nevertheless, it's very scary when you hear gun shots or loud shouting or sirens, doesn't matter where you live. All any of us can do is always take precautions and try to be as safe as possible. I use the Citizen Report app to stay up to date on crime and activity in my neighborhood. It tells me when there is a crash or a break in, as soon as another neighbor reports it. So it's very up to date. The only.problem is that it can be overwhelming at times. __________________ What if I fall? Oh, my dear, but what if you fly?
