I’ve been looking for lucky charms marshmallows for weeks. Stores are just now getting them. But every time I go to the couple stores they have them they are not out on the shelves despite the websites saying they are in stock. I asked an employee last Monday and she said “oh I don’t know. They were here a couple days ago. I know because I bought a bag.” The same thing happened tonight with a different store. I just spent $70 on a non cancelable grocery order to get a bag that they said was in stock and 20 minutes later I got a message saying they were out of stock.

I’m not 100% sure this is happening but I’ve heard of this before. Where employees put stuff aside as soon as it comes in to buy later after their shift. I’ve also heard of specific customers getting to know the employees and then the employees saving product for them. It was happening at my old job until management put a stop to it.

Do you think any of this is fair? It’s been happening quite a bit since Covid.

Theres probably a boomer black market in the lucky charms marshmallows.

Do you belong to NextDoor? I would ask there myself but I probably used up all my goodwill for a while today when i commented negatively on a rotting pile of pumpkins somebody got ticketed for having on their front lawn. Everybody commiserated except me. I said it looked like a rat fest and that yeah everything is fun and games until somebody gets an eye chewed out!

I just looked at the other stores website and the lucky charms are still listed but now are on sale. 2 for $3. It’s just weird. At least I got stuff I really needed.

Maybe I’ll go check the store since Monday is my shopping day anyway.

I used to generally believe that employees of stores got items for free (or were allowed to take items for free)

I later found out this was not the case: as certain people who I know who worked in stores filled me in on.

I don't know why I thought that, I guess to me it seems sensible.. you work their, you get pick of the products

that is to say: if you worked in mcdonalds, and walked in 1 day while you were off shift, you shouldn't have to pay regular price for one

Yesterday at the store the employee said they didn’t have them but they had some store packaged dehydrated marshmallows and she said they taste exactly the same. They do look like they just picked through the cereal box. So I can stop looking now.

I know of at a least one thrift store where employees would take stuff before the customers could and they were eventually told not to do it. But then they started up again. The donations would come in the back and then they’d ask the other volunteers to put a price on it and the volunteers would put a really cheap price on it. Basically all the good stuff would be gone before the customers could get it.
