My friend does mosaics. Sometimes she breaks glass or uses beads. she does flower pots and pictures, wrought iron pieces etc. I have been looking for something inexpensive and creative so I hit the dollar general. I bought a tall glass vase, two bags of those colored small stones that were flat on the bottom and gorilla glue epoxy glue. (cheaper than the crafting one) Anyone else have experience with this? Any beginners? Suggestions? Finished pieces you would like to share? Oh and the best part was all of that cost me 11$.

Cool and post pics of the finished mosaic art work. Have never done mosaics myself, but it would be fun to try sometime.

Hi, Sarah!

Just some encouragement from me: have you started to play round with the pieces yet? When I tried to teach myself to crochet, my first pieces were barely recognizable, LOL

Keeping in mind these pieces were supposed to have straight edges:

trying out a new craft: Mosaic-like things

See how katiwompus they turned out?

BTW, the pliers are there holding down that corner because it wants to flip up and curl. LOL

I had to find answers on how to correct my mistakes, which I eventually did, but my point is I was learning something completely new and foreign to me.

This is my input: Start playing around with it. Plus, as I am sure you know, the internet has oodles of websites on techniques, ideas, etc... I am confident you know that.

More than anything, have FUN!! You are putting together true one of a kind pieces, just as unique and original as you are, babes.

I have done a bit of mosaics. I cant post a picture of my latest work. I bought a lamp at $3.00 from a second hand store. The base was plain terracotta, round and 12 inches high. I then got some china plates with delicate pink flowers on them, also from a second had store so it didnt cost much at all. I smashed up the plates and stuck them on the terracotta base. I ended up with a very pretty lamp. It is nice to make something from your own hands.

There's an absolutely amazing house made of mosaics in Venice, California. Check it out:

Hi Sarah,

I am an artisan of sorts. I work with a lot of mixed media’s. I like the mosaics and might give that a try. Show us your finished piece!
