I’m just kinda freaking out that it is. But then I’m just like why are the retail stores open and preparing for Christmas and why are grocery shelves full and football still going on and then I wonder if it’s just me and my own personal non Covid issues that are stressing me out.

Does anyone else feel like this?

I do not think it's the end of the world (although bad anxiety can make it feel that way sometimes).

I don’t feel like it’s the end of the world as such, but agree it’s often disorienting - everything seems to be like it was pre-pandemic (besides masks/social distancing and not everyone bothers with those things - I do get very anxious in shops when I get idiots trying to creep up to me in the queue, somehow thinking I won’t notice, or those who leap towards the till the second I’ve paid!) in spite of various parts of the country going back into lockdown.

I find it sort of surprising, shocking, even how open most of the US is despite the surge in cases. My adopted country of about 19 million is having normally around 1,100 new cases a day, although yesterday was a bit higher. Still, many places here are under a lot of restrictions. My area has about 31 active cases per 100,000 by the last report and we are still in phase 2 (1 is very strict lockdown). We still have curfew, gatherings are limited and you can only go out once during the weekend with a special permit. We have more freedom during the week. We also have national and local mask requirements. Some hotspots are under strict quarantine where you can only get 2 permits to go out a week and only essential businesses are open.

Masks are "encouraged" here. There used to be a $250 fine for not wearing a mask in public, but I don't think it was well enforced.

MD, I don't think it's the end of the world, but I'm stressed AF over the state of things.

Covid still stresses me out. But, it freaks me out too that retail stores always put up Christmas trees before Halloween. Its retailers pressuring consumers to buy early, to make up for poor sales during the summer months. Basically, consumers get overloaded with merchandise in October b/c retailers are really bad at strategic planning. According to the National Retailers Federation anyway. So, you are experiencing a total normal reaction - anxiety - to being overloaded with crazy retail sensory information. Me too. I hate it. I really hate it.

The song "its the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)" is in my head now by REM. I've always loved that song. It's sort of goofy and light. And catchy.

Hugs, MD. Hope you feel better.

It's not the end of the world, it only seems so. There was a very similar epidemic of Spanish flu exactly 100 years ago and the world didn't end back then.

But it definitely does cause tons of stress. I'm from Slovakia (population only 5,5million) and we have a nationwide testing of everyone over the age of 10. It already began in the most affected areas last weekend. The rest of the country will go next weekend and the weekend after that. In order to be allowed to return to work, you need 2 negative results. That means we must go twice. People who won't have certificates that they got tested won't be allowed to enter their workplace and will stay in 10 day quarantine. There are various other restrictions.

The police will be checking everything and the fine can be up to 1650€.

No not the end of the world md. Just enough to stress a person out. Clearly some stores have lost the plot as they now have hot cross buns on sale.

It’s not the end of the world although it might seem like it. It is anxiety producing and stressful though so coping skills might come in handy.

Sending hugs your way.

It is definitely not the end of the world. The world has been through way worse pandemics and people still pulled through. The pandemic will end. Most modern day pandemics last a year or two. Places are opening up because people are learning ways to live while not getting sick. Also hospitals are getting better at treating Covid. And all of these restrictions are temporary. It will be okay. I know it is frustrating to deal with all of these restrictions.

I can relate to the COVID anxieties. The social distancing gets me the most . I do hug famiy members, my male friend f rom the back, both of us earing masks and not facing each other I miss the most hugs from my relatives, and friends. I think too a major critical issue is climate change. ie the fires on the west coast of the US, state of CO. , weather extremes, weather affecting agriculture etc. Climate Change imo is a major issue too.
