you don't have a lock at hand, how can you keep a door closed?

are their things you can buy to stop the door from opening

Dear raging vortex,

That's a good question. I've used a wedge of wood shoved under the door and a heavy weight behind the door before and they seemed to work pretty good.

LOL, you could try that link and chain, that we see in movies, and most houses have it, but the best thing is a lock. I can think of things you can do to lock a door, but you will also not be able to get in.

they make safety locks like this for travel too. I think they could be found on amazon… there are also other jammer type devices that can be installed in your home for safety

I bought a thing on Amazon, I believe it's called a door monkey. It leaves the door open a crack, so there is air flow, but the cat can't get in the room. It's pretty cool. I'm allergic to cats, and was told not to have her in the room I sleep in. This thing works really well if you're not trying to prevent a burglar.
