Has anyone diagnosed with schizophrenia and experiencing auditory hallucinations tried to get off their medications? I tried once going very slowly but my voices got worse so I had to go back on them. I may try again. Any tips out there?

Is there a reason you’re wanting to come of ap? Seems like they help with the voices which is a big deal.

I heard from Dr Keith Scott-Mumby that the antipsychotic drugs actually perpetuate the mental illness and I would be better off, getting off of them. They are not healthy for the brain anyway. What are your thoughts on this?

I agree. I saw a study once where animal subjects suffered something like a 6% reduction in brain mass over the course of 18 months from high-rise quetiapine. Scary. I've been on it for 8yrs, and was on 1000mg a day at one point. I definitely feel like my general mental abilities are fading. I've tried coming off it and other meds a heap of times, but I end up not sleeping and go downhill fast. Sometimes I end up in a psych ward which is the last place I want to be.
