HI all,
It will be two years soon, and I have been to therapy ever since, but in past 3 months i developed terrible insomnia and ended up with handful of medications by psychiatrist. The sleep got restored. I am writing this because last week i watched some videos by prominent neurologists, psychiatrists, and some TED talks. All that hit me unexpectedly the wrong way, I almost felt ill. I didn't know what and why. I wonder if we are in acute phase, is it good for us to read, watch about our condition.? To whom are these specialists talking to, is it ethical to do so? Now I have repulsion to self help, it's almost like self medicating. I just want to forget all that info, it really hit me the wrong way. Especially the specialist advise that in 4 months with the " right therapy" it will go away.... Really! At least to say it was condescending, AND by prominent specialists in the field. What do you people think? Thank you Jox |

I think you need to do what ever helps you feel better and at ease with your situation
perhaps watching the videos isn't the best thing to do right now, though I know from first hand experience it's difficult you want to watch things relating to what you feel, especially when triggered it's hard |

I personally dislike listening to so-called specialists or experts spouting off about the sorts of issues I'm dealing with... telling me how easy it will be to heal if only I do this… buy their book, attend their lecture, etc. I avoid most of this sort of thing like the plague.
From my perspective there can be such a thing as too much information. Besides... chances are these people never struggled with the things I've struggled with. And they don't know the first thing about me. It takes a special kind of audacity for all of these self-proclaimed experts to pontificate on how easy it is for a person to heal if they'll just do "X". (I feel similarly about all of the self-appointed "spiritual masters" out there. Give me a break...) __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Thank you for you response.
Skeezyks especially, I think everybody wants "5 min of fame" as per Andy Warhol. I don't care about self proclaimed people. What bothers me is academic professionals talking. I don't think it's ethical, more even legal. Patients should not read nor listen medical info. My psychiatrist told me NOT to google too much. I think she was nice, but she meant NOT to read at all. And after watching you tube, and my reaction, I understood why. It feels like congesting yourself with TMI, weather conspiracy theories or official news, it's not heathy. Now I am not on the web, I read and draw and interact in person with friends, AND feel so much better. Thank you Joxx |
