I've had my cat for 17-18 years.
She was fine until 2 months ago when she suddenly became emaciated, and a week ago, she developed an upper respiratory infection. She weighs 3 pounds and is skelatal. She ignores the food I put in front of her. I don't want to euthanize her, but what choice do I have? I don't have any money to treat her symptoms of dehydration with, or pay to tube feed her, or pay to give her fluids to rehydrate her. All the treatments she could get to help her, I am broke and can't pay for. I have to wait a week to pay for her to be euthanized too. I feel guilty as hell. I feel like ending her life, is like killing her. But what can I do? She is my best friend -- this cat. I feel so horrible. |

No one responded but that's ok.
My cat died tonight while I held her in my arms. She meant the world to me -- this cat. She was my best friend. |

Yes, me too. 17-18 yrs is a long, good life for a cat, though. I'm sorry she's gone :-(

Thank you.

At least I was with her when she passed away, so that she wasn't alone. Pet love is so real and so DEEP because it's unconditional -- unlike humans who put conditions on their feelings with each other. |

Yes, I agree it's unconditional unlike humans. Yes, she wasn't alone. You're welcome StreetcarBlanche. Maybe there's a little kitten out there waiting for you, as well. All my best to you. It'll be okay. |

I'm so sorry for your loss. You obviously took great care of her, for her to reach the age of 18.
It's good that you're remaining open to the idea of getting another one or two. |

Thanks Travelinglady.
I just found out yesterday that y cat died from diabetic ketoacidosis -- untreated feline diabetes. I didn't know she even had diabetes because her regular checkup bloodwork didn't show that her blood sugar levels were off. So I feel even worse now, knowing that had I caught her diabetes early enough I could have sought insulin shots and tablets to treat her condition with, along with a total diet change. Quote:
I feel jut terrible knowing I could have saved her had I figured out her symptoms were from diabetes. I thought that her symptoms leading up to her sudden death were just due to her age; frequent urination, weight loss, etc. b/c older cats lose weight. I had no idea her body was not metabolizing the glucose in her canned cat food anymore that led to her getting feline diabetes. |

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved cat, I lost my dog 3 years ago and I still hurt, I try to think of the happy times we had together and it helps ease the pain a bit.

I am so sorry for your loss and I know how you feel. Last Saturday we had to put down my "therapy" cat. People don't realize how attached we can all become to our animals. Just know that your kitty is going to be in kitty heaven hanging out with mine. They're gonna be fat and healthy and never get full on their food. They're gonna play and be waiting for you. Unless there isn't a flow of time there, and you're already there with them.
I know it's hard but you have everyone on here. You will get through this and if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm here and so are many others. (If I offended you about the kitty heaven, I'm very sorry. But know they're better not being in pain) __________________ "I suppose we're no good at facing our memories.
