Default Unbelievable grief

It's been 3 months since I've lost my best friend of 20 years. I think about it ever day....all day. I just can't get on and now I feel like he talks to me 😭

Did you talk with him every day before you lost him? 20 years of friendship is rare in itself. He had to be an amazing friend.

Three months is a short time...and you will find yourself surprised the day you realize you have Not thought of him for a few hours, a day...but you always will. I think each day, for a time, of people I have lost years ago now...
It is OK to grieve, you get on in your own way. ((((((((((hugs))))))))))

[QUOTE=Yzen;6523777] Did you talk with him every day before you lost him?

We were actually friends over 20 years. We talked several times a week. We texted the night before. 3 nights before was the last time we talked, he told me that he missed me and my daughter horribly and wished he was still in NC with us. That was our last real conversation.

I'm doing much better with grieving for him. I don't feel it as often, but the intensity when I do is still absolutely soul crushing.

I lost my dad a couple years ago. At first I was in shock more than anything. I had seen him go down hill over a couple years in nursing home, so I should not have been shocked but I was.

For me I had to reinvent who I thought I was. I had to let go of things I hoped for or expected that then I knew would not happen. I guess it was coming to terms with all the positives in my life of that relationship.

Support groups helped because others validated how I felt with grief and sadness and emptiness. Everyone grieves in their own way but having people to help us cope can be a great addition.

This article speaks to some of what I was going through Coping with the End of a Relationship

I am so sorry for your loss @FearandLoathing40. I agree with @CANDC a grief support group might be a good idea. I haven't lost anyone close to me yet, but I find depression support groups very helpful.
