For the past 7 months my aunt has been on hospice and she passed away early this morning. It’s been very sad since she has been going downhill the past 5 years or more partially due to depression and to physical reasons. Less than 2 years ago my dad her brother passed away and less than two months after my dad passed away his younger brother passed away.

It’s been very sad and difficult to handle since they all passed away at much younger ages than their parents.

So I expected my dad to live 10-15 years longer than he did. All the medical breakthroughs and then this, I don’t know.

That's a lot of loss in a short span of time. You have my deepest condolences.

My condolences to you. I have lost several people in the last few years, myself. I completely understand.

The hardest part of loss is usually what comes after: getting used to the sudden change. You can't gradually get used to it, and you don't know what to do while trying to adapt; then the grief comes in phases and waves - not just after the loss, but randomly throughout the years that follow.

Once you've adapted to the change, you still don't like it, because they are still not here. But in many ways, they are. They are still with you, in heart and memory, traveling the world with you on your adventures. Every time you think of someone you love who has passed, you are sharing the experience of that moment, that place, with that person - you've brought them with you.

Loving someone should not depend on whether or not they are there. You can love a person without them ever knowing it, and you can love someone after they have passed. And the important thing is: you love them, and they knew it.

What you do out of love for them should drive you during this time. If you focus on creating hobbies that focus on the positive memories between you, then you are not focusing on their absence, but instead on the love that still remains.

zapatoes sorry to hear you have so many losses all at once. That sounds just so difficult. Hugs.

Any one of them would be a handful. Hope you are finding support at this challenging time. Have you considered a therapist or a grief support group to help you gain perspective on all these losses all at once?

Yes I have considered therapy and may try to look into therapy via phone or face time. Grief support would be helpful and may have to be online or by Zoom now.

yes there are a lot of online options now for grief support. Finding one near your location can make continued support possible after we get back to more face to face interactions.
