My goal is to help myself not talking so much and listen more. I seem to make people nervous when I do talk. All because of my severe loneliness. I have nephew who is OCD who talk all the time. Is there any kind of help for those who talk too much?

I know for me I talk too much when I'm manic. For me pdoc has made some med adjustments which have been helpful. I'm sure there are self-help things too, just don't know of any.

I just know that when I talk? I seem to find myself being yelled at for talking. Or people seem to avoid me.

Update! I feel like the reason I talk too much? Is because I am invisible to my peers and at home. I feel like it is a nervous habit I have.

Hi Buffy, I was wondering, when you get yelled at for talking what is the reason? For example, are you talking out of turn, talking over others, or talking at inappropriate times?

I tend to ramble on, like I don't know when to end a conversation. Or people are always telling me I talk to loudly. I think it could definitely be related to feeling unheard or ignored by others. And even if you do talk too much, you deserve to be heard.

You also mentioned its like a nervous habit. If you're nervous, maybe try asking questions about others and get them talking so you don't have to fill the silence.

I was never giving a reason why I was being yelled. I could ask a question or mention something regarding a movie or a book and I am yelled at. I don't talk out of turns, talking over other, or at inappropriate time. I'm usually ignored at home.

Either I talk and spill out my guts, sharing too much, or I stay silent to prevent myself from oversharing. It seems like it's lose-lose so I'd love to hear other people's strategies in dealing with this.

I do that myself. I start being chewed out all the time. It got to the point that I no longer want to be around people. Just to keep from being yelled at.
