Hey, I'm a high school sudent and I was wondering if anyone knows rarer symptoms of things like dyslexia. I have never had any trouble reading what-so-ever but over the past few days I have been gettin a little worried because no matter what im reading, after about a sentence the words go blurry and I then have to refocus and start over, it now takes me 3-4 times longer to read a page, at first I thought it might be sleep deprevation but it dosnt seem to matter how much sleep I get, I can get a great night sleep, be wide awake the whole day, but when i start to read everything goes blurry and I often end up shaking myself awake after 5-10 seconds of sleeping and find my place again. I'll post again in a week or so if it still hasnt passed but if anyone has heard of anything like this I would greatly appreciate it.
thanx, Luke |

It sounds medical to me - I would go to a doctor as soon as you can

Third vote for seeing a doctor comes from me.
Also wonder if it could be something related to narcolepsy... maybe you aren't sleeping as well as you think you are and when you read the "sleep" chemicals start to put you out for a brief period... Discuss with your doctor if you think it has relevance... Good luck __________________ ------------------------------------ -- -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- www.idexter.com |

I'll add my vote that you get in quick for a physical exam, also get your vision checked.
Doesn't sound very fun to be met with these new symptoms, hope everything gets sorted out soon, let us know. Sarah __________________ |

The blurryness isnt dyslexia. or other reading/learning disorders. Learning disorders don't just suddenly appear by way of blurry eyes. They are a brain processing problem that most times comes with other problems like mental retardation, cerebral palsy, Down syndome and so on. and other minor forms of brain dysfunction problems. Reading learning problems also effect the writing skills and memory skills. Dislexia is where the person sees letters out of order and backwords for example for the word" saw" I see the word as: was, wsa, swa, saw, asw. They also write out of order. I wouldn't be surprised if in reading my posts you see words that I have spelled out of order, backwords or wrong. The word schito... always gets me I can never remember how to spell it so I spell it the way it sounds instead of letter correct. I am constantly having to go back and fix the word you because I write it yuo because that is how I see it when I read that word.
schools, primary physicians, eye glass doctors have been testing for it and other learning disorders since the 1960's. (its the E and the full range letter charts). all USA high school students must now pass reading comprehension test, english comprehensiion, and writing comprehension tests before they are allowed to graduate the 12th grade. and the last 5 years most states have testing at certain grades called benchmarks of various subjects like reading, english and so on. Their not passing these tests reflects possible learning disorders. You are in high school right now dealing with all these tests already so if you had a learning disorder like dyslexia you would have already been diagnosed with it. The blurryness could mean your eyes are tired or you need glasses and/or contacts or if you already wear them, and you may need and updated prescription. My suggestion talk to your school nurse and make an appointment with an optomatrist at sterling optical and other eye glass specialty shops. |

I agree that it would probably be a good idea to see a doctor..

This may sound strange, but sometimes if you do something to fall asleep - like reading in bed, or reading to wind down prior to falling asleep, your brain will associate that activity with bedtime & will produce the chemicals necessary to sleeping whenever you perform that activity.
(I've fallen asleep during a particular cartoon that's on late at night so many times, & now even when my husband tapes it for me & I try to watch it earlier in the evening - bam, I'm out like a light.) __________________ For every ailment under the sun, there be a remedy or there be none. I would see a doctor about this. But what ur describing sounds like astigmatism. Its a eye conditon where the lens cant focus correctly. And makes it a pain to get contacts cause every time u blink ur vision goes blurry. It could be that u had astigmatism for a while but never knoticed till now. Or it could be a serious problem. But before u jump to a conclusion and say yep tahts what i got astigmatism. I would go to ur eye doctor and get tested. If he says its not astigmatism then go to a doctor. keep us posted

I vote for a vision test. Unless of course, you have taken some medication (prescribed or otherwise) or herb that could be affecting your vision. Sleep deprivation can drive someone certifiable... until they sleep, so it certainly can affect your vision. Eye strain is what it sounds like most likely. Get some sleep, don't be rubbing your eyes.. and if it continues, see a doctor!
